Here are some resources to check out. I think Cumberland county will have the most to offer. Hoke, Sampson and Harnett are more rural than Cumberland but offer nice places to live. I can't speak about Moore county, I don't have first hand knowledge of that area. The whole area is fairly easy to get around and you won't really be limited in your choices.

CCS' - Communications and Innovative Projects good info on school choice and the unique programs they offer like language immersion.

NC School Report Cards you can compare all schools in all counties

We also have many excellent private schools.

Fayetteville Wants YOU: Brought To You By Dex this site has great info for relocating military families.

Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and RecreationCumberland County has a great parks and recreation department with lots to do.

Hoke county has horrible schools. I would not advise anyone to use them. My kids will never go back to their schools. The superintendant has not contacted me in over 2 months of trying to talk to him. The principal, vice principal and teacher tried to coerce me into signing a paper that I felt was illegal. I won.
Eastover area has nice schools.
Moore county on the back of Bragg has nice schools.

The McGees Crossroads area of Johnston County is growing and has new schools. Everyone I know there seems to be very happy with the schools and teachers. The push the kids hard though but they learn and seem to do well on the testing. It is about and hour or so from Bragg. and about 30 minutes to Raleigh. That offers you alot of choices for entertainment. Housing is cheaper there than in the Triangle itself and it still has a very rural feel to it. You can check out the schools by googling Johnston county nc public schools. Good Luck! and Welcome to NC!!

The schools in Fayetteville are a disgrace to our country and tax payers. My child complained of other children disrupting the class, mean kids, theft, and kids that in her own words "don't know anything." No issues with teachers but the learning pace is very, very, very slow. I tried taking her to a STEM based charter school but it was like a military boot camp and the adults were unkind. After witnessing an after care worker grab her roughly and jerk her out of line because she was talking, I took her out. This employee was obviously embarrassed when she saw me and knew what she did was wrong. Total disgrace.

Now my child is living with her father in VA in a city with a median household income of 200k. She has her own reading specialist and is given a new book everyday to bring home and which she reads to her father. I did not realize she was behind in reading until she switched to her new school. Also, I found a note on her desk when visiting that read in child script "welcome, do you want to be my friend?" So cute. I asked her how she likes the kids and she gushed how much she loves the kids and the teachers. So, obviously to me, wealthy neighborhood = good kids and good schools. I would start there by researching median household income. Good luck to all.

I'm curious now...which school school was your child in? Cumberland County has some excellent schools, with good kids. The learning pace is not slow......maybe just in your school, or the type of classes your child was taking?? Please quit saying ALL Cumberland County Schools are like this, because it just isn't true. I've taught in various schools in the county, and I've subbed in many schools, and they're not ALL like you portray them.
