Hello - I would like to ask for your help. My partner and I live in the Wilson, NC area and are looking for a gay friendly church to attend. Wilson is a small area but we are willing to travel at least 25 miles to worship on Sundays. Please advise us on which churches would welcome us with open arms regardless of denomination. We understand that Rocky Mount or Greenville might have what we are looking for. Thank you and God bless...

I've known several people from Wilson who come to Raleigh to either Pullen Memorial Baptist or St. John's Metropolitan Community Church. I will enquire with some folks I know from Wilson, who are gay churchgoers, and ask, however, in case there is somewhere closer.

The one (so far) person I asked who is from Wilson (now living in Clayton, near Raleigh) literally laughed when I asked this. There may be churches that are "less unfriendly" or "neutral", but I don't know if Wilson is somewhere you will find gay-friendly churches. I'll keep asking and let you know.

You might want to check towards Greenville (a college town and therefore generally more liberal) as well.

Still no luck on my end either. Hard to believe there is not a gay tolerant church somewhere in the area.

Well, there is a difference between "gay tolerant" and "gay friendly". Gay friendly implies that there is actually some degree of "outreach" to the Community and a stated openness to nonheterosexual people. "Gay tolerant" would just be a more "liberal" church that isn't going to condemn you or go into apoplexy if a same-sex couple wants to join. I'd be surprised if there weren't any gay tolerant churches anywhere in that area, but I don't think gay friendly will be found in Wilson. I know two separate liberal straight people who come all the way to Raleigh to go to church, if that tells you anything...
