Smile Hoke County Living...would love to hear your reviews

Hello Everyone,

I am new here and am so glad I found this forum. I am a teacher and my family and I live in PA, just outside of Philly, where we have lived all of our life. The state of teaching here is very dismal, job cuts, freezes, etc.. Not to mention things are just getting faster and faster everyday! So we decided to check into other possibilities. After doing hours of research on hiring states I was able to set up an interview in Hoke COunty. I have been offered a position for next year. We will be living in Raeford and we have two children 3 and 8. I am very interested in learning about the area. If you know the answers to any of my wildly running thoughts, please feel free to comment. I strongly believe that I can make a difference and would love to have the opportunity ...so here goes...
1. I will be on the east side of Raeford, towards Fayetteville, I would like to have a fairly short commute, and suggestions on housing?
2. Any daycare recommendations? What is the average cost?
3. IS there a Walmart??? - gotta have a WallyWorld!
4. What are the opportunities for a well diversed man, police, fire and EMT certifications as well as CDL license, certified contractor and landscape foreman...yes he is a jack of all trades, and proudly a master off all... )
5. What are the more desireable Hoke county schools?
6. What can you tell me about the early college high school?
7. What are the electric costs of an average sized home?

I have plenty others and would love to bounce ideas back and forth...thank you for your input and time!

They have Walmart, Lowes, and and a new hospital going up out that way.

You can find most of what you are looking for in the corridor from Raeford to Fayetteville. Many nice subdivisions out that way. We have helped many buyers who found nice houses in that area.

Fayetteville Police are always looking for recruits.

Here is a daycare to check out. We are friends with the owners. They have four or five locations around the area.

When are you moving here? I too just moved here but had lived in Cumberland Co 5 yrs ago (yep hubby's Military) The NEW Wal-mart is opening tomorrow and am excited probably more cause we live really close to it. SOME Cumberland Co people will tell you that Hoke Co is a poor county and the schools arent' that great, but because I have twins starting K this year I have looked at the numbers and they don't look bad at all. Now the Raeford area isn't really all that pretty at least so far what I have seen of it but we were looking to downsize house and surroundings (moved here from Atlanta) so we are ok with it not being so pretty. Depending on what area you will be in daycares really need to be viewed in person because I have passed a few and they were disgusting looking. I have seen a few that look up to standards on the outside but will be going into them this week sometime to see more. Sorry this is just my opinion and just wanted to be honest. Let me know what else you was wondering and I'll see if I can help.
