This is just a funny look at Texas in the summertime:

NEW TEXAN'S DIARY

May 30th:
Just moved to Dallas , Texas .
Now this is a city that knows how to live!!
Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place!
I watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket.
It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14th:
Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an
air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to
see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshiper.

June 30th:
Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus
and rocks. What a breeze to maintain.
No more mowing lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th:
The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used
to this kind of heat? At least it's kind of windy though. But getting
used to the heat and humidity is taking longer than I expected.

July 15th:
Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body).
Missed 3 days of work What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson
though. Got to respect the sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:
I missed Morgan (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this
morning. By the time I got to the hot car for lunch, Morgan had died
and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank up the $2,000
leather upholstery. I told the kids that she ran away. The car now
smells like Kibbles and sh*ts. I learned my lesson though. No more pets
in this heat.

July 25th:
The wind sucks.. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's
hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is not working and the AC
repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order
parts.

July 30th:
Been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now. $1,500 in ****
house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

Aug. 4th:
It's 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost
$500 and gets the temperature down to 85, but this freaking humidity
makes the house feel like it's about 95. Stupid repairman. I hate this
stupid city.

Aug. 8th:
If another wise ass asks, "Hot enough for you today? I'm going to
strangle him. **** heat. By the time I get to work the radiator is
boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

Aug. 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and sat on the black
leather seats in the car. I thought my ass was on fire. I lost 2 layers
of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass. Now my car
smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.

Aug. 10th:
The weather report might as well be a **** recording. Hot and sunny.
Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do stuff for 2 ****
months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week.
Doesn't ever rain in this **** desert? Water rationing now, so my $1700
worth of cactus just dried up and blew into the **** pool. Even the
cactus can't live in this **** heat.

Aug. 14th:
Welcome to HELL!!! Temperature got to 115 today. Forgot to crack the
window and blew the **** windshield out of the car. The installer came
to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today? My wife had to spend the
$1500 house payment to bail me out of jail.
Freaking Texas . What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live
here???

That was so Funny!!! OMG!! I lived for a few years in El Paso (AKA El Pisso) Texas and that was the closet to what I imagine hell to be. I don't know why people choose to live there! That is where we should send all the inmates!!

Such wisdom! We've encountered most every aspect (except the cat death) in bits and pieces here in Los Angeles, before you guys got it east of us.

We had 3 weeks of over 100 degree weather, with a top out at 112 and humid. That's "and humid," not heat index humid.

I cannot understand the appeal of Texas either, with 4 - 6 months of that torture.

It is 98 degrees here now with a heat index of 109 degrees. But I have seen it hotter. It use to be nothing for it to be 104 degrees with God only knows what kind of heat index. I don't think I could take anything hotter though. I guess that is one reason why I stay put. At least I pretty much know what to expect. I felt really sorry for Holly and Curtis the first year they were here after moving from Buffalo, NY. They were so miserable.

NEW MINNESOTAN'S DIARY

Aug. 20 :
Moved to our new home in Minnesota. It is so beautiful here. The hills are so picturesque. Can hardly wait to see them with snow covering them. This is God's Country. I love it here!

Oct. 14:
Minnesota is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves are burning all different colors - you should see the beautiful shades of red and orange and yellow! Went for a ride through some beautiful rolling hills and spotted some deer. They are so graceful, certainly they are the most peaceful animals on earth. This must be Paradise… I love it here!

Nov. 3:
Deer season will start soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill such an elegant creature, the very symbol of peace and tranquility. Hope it will snow soon. I love it here!

Dec. 2:
It snowed last night! Woke up to find everything blanketed in white, just like a postcard. We went outside and cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won) and when the snowplow came by, we had to shovel the driveway again. What a beautiful place. Mother nature in perfect harmony. I love Minnesota!

Dec. 12:
More snow last night. I love it. The snowplow did his trick again (that rascal) and pushed all the snow back into the driveway, but we bundled up and had a good time clearing it - and we made a snowman out of it! A winter wonderland… I love it here!

Dec. 19:
More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work on time! I'm exhausted from shoveling. That d*mn snowplow!

Dec. 22:
More of that white crap fell last night. I've got blisters on my hands from shoveling. I think the snowplow man hides around the corner and waits until I'm done shoveling this driveway, the jerk! And you should see our heating bills!

Dec. 25:
"White Christmas" my busted ass! More friggin snow. If I ever get my hands on that son of a b*tch who drives that snowplow, I swear I'll break the b*stard's nose. Don't know why they don't use more salt on the roads to melt this friggin ICE!

Dec. 28:
More white sh*t last night. Been inside since Christmas Day except for shoveling out the driveway every time "Snowplow Harry" comes by. Can't go anywhere, car's buried in a mountain of frozen snow. The weatherman says to expect another 10" of the sh*t tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10" is?

Jan. 1:
Happy d*mn New Year, the weatherman was wrong AGAIN. We got two feet of the white sh*t this time. At this rate it won't melt before the Fourth of July. The snowplow got stuck up the road, and the jerk had the balls to come to the door and ask to borrow my shovel. After I told him I've broken six shovels already, shoveling all the sh*t he pushed into the driveway, I broke my last one over his d*mn head!

Jan. 8:
Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get food and on the way back, a d*mn deer ran in front of the car and I hit the b*stard. Did about $3,000 worth of damage to the car. Those d*mn beasts ought to be killed. Wish the hunters had killed them all last Nov.

Mar. 22:
Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing is rotting out from all that d*mn salt they keep dumping all over the road? Car looks like a piece of sh*t!

April. 10:
Moved south. I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would ever want to live in that place!

I remember my first year in College. I was used to Michigan summers. Hot waves but lots of pretty mild weather in between. I had to do yard work when in college. The fall and spring were fine, then the first summer hit. OMG I literally had to change my approach to work. Take breaks every hour. Drinking lots of fluids, slow down a little.
After living in Pitt Co. for 7 years before moving to NYC, I am somehow able to handle it better. It is like 98 here this afternoon, and I can honestly tell folks, "I've seen it worse."
