Moving a House - The Entire Structure.
I'd like to get a list together of companies that actually lift and move a house from one site to another. Not a moving company for furniture, etc, but moving the entire house from one site (lot location) to another.
Does anyone know of companies out here that do such a thing? Has anyone had any firsthand experience? Any thoughts on costs? On how far one can be moved? Different options?
I'm actually having a difficult time finding things online or in my local directories. Mostly because of the search criteria since I always end up finding moving companies, not house movers.
All help is appreciated! Thx.

Are you looking in all of NC or a specific region?
Have you looked in yellowpages.com for housemovers?

You should find a company that does it here. I have seen a few homes and plenty of double wides being moved around here. Maybe a manufacturer of modular homes might be able to tell you who they use.

I'm sure this lady could point you to a house mover:
newsobserver.com | Putting hope into housing
You are not looking for a mobile home dealer/mover. House moving is a completely different project.

That's pretty cool. Reminds me of a story I saw on NBC news a couple of weeks ago about turning shipping containers into houses. The US doesn't export anything, so the 33000 lb containers are too expensive to ship back to China. They use them to build houses which are hurricane proof and end up being pretty nice. I imagine all of NC if such businesses are capable of moving from any NC location to another. Nonetheless, I am in Durham, so the triangle area would be the specific region where the home, and possibly homes, are located.

I will definitely follow-up with some modular home builders regarding house movers. However, I imagine their forte is specifically modular, and I am not interested in moving a modular home. A stick built home on foundation is, specifically, what I am looking to move.

I, unfortunately, did not see the show but the readings I've done about the modular homes being created from shipping containers sounds like an interesting one. I knew of a very nice one in CA by the beach that was being erected. Something else. I'd love to partner with someone who would be interested in building such structures. They make sense. Not necessarily a hundred percent made structure, but one primarily erected from such containers would be incredible!

Nonetheless, I contacted Nancy directly and left a message. I hope to chat with her tomorrow about possible references and, of course, about her efforts. Sounds like something I was chatting with friends about years ago that, I hope, will prove fruitful for her ( Builders of Hope) and those who benefit from her efforts.

Cali- my husbands' co. moved one of the terminals at Newark airport years ago and recently moved the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The mover they used was International Chimeny Corp. I think they mostly do very large structures but you might get some direction from them. Moving a home is a delicate operation.
Wish you good luck

Hi J,
I visited their site and it looks like they could handle such a move, but I'm guessing that they are generally enlisted to handle much larger projects.
I'll send them an email, nevertheless, in hopes of finding some local references. One never knows.
Many thanks!

Someone in my neighborhood just moved a 3000+ sq. foot home, but only a couple of blocks. I think the company was TKF out of Wilmington. I don't know how far they go outside of Wilmington. Also, they have to look at the house to tell you if it can be moved without damaging it (the house I mentioned was really hard to move b/c the owners wanted the brick facade intact), and also how far you want it moved. I imagine it was pretty expensive to move that house. They worked on it for over a month to get it off it's original foundation. It was a very slow process when they got it moving, but it was a huge house. Good luck.
