Hello all. I am planning a visit to the Minot area for about a week or two during mid-September or early October 2010 (in just a couple of months). My parents may be with me for part of the time and I'm thinking of taking them to the Norsk Hostfest if the timing works out. They love Daniel Odonnell, so I thought I might spring for some tickets for them. Any thoughts or recommendations of some night life for someone that's not necessarily into Daniel Odonnell? I'd like to find a place with some live music and good vibe to get a feeling for what the area is like...from the locals perhaps. It wouldn't hurt if the pub/bar/club was known to have pretty girls there! I'm no party animal and don't really drink, but really enjoy a nice local watering hole with good music and pretty women!

Also, any thoughts on the Donnybrook and Kenmare areas would be appreciated. Really liking those areas based on my research. May want to relocate there permanently one day soon! What cell phone service is best for the Minot area? I currently have Sprint/Nextel but have heard their service may not work there. MagicCity and DaninEGF along with a few others have answered some questions very kindly for me in the past...you guys still out there?
Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions. I'm looking forward to getting away from the oppressive heat and humidity here in SC. It's going to be 105 tomorrow and throughout the weekend with humidity to match! Can't wait for a break in this heat! Talk to y'all soon.

Alan

Hi Alan

My wife mentioned back in the day she went to the Blind Duck and that the Pour Farm (all on the south end) are popular. But I am out of the local music scene so dont know too much to guide you.

Verizon is the best cell carrier for the area. You may still be able to use Sprint in town but I dont know about smaller towns around there.

I have never been up to Kenmare personally.

That time of year will be nice....with comfortable days and cool nights. Probably have frost nights by then with lows in the 30s and 40s in mid Sept to the 20s and 30s by early October. High temps could vary greatly....from 40s if it is cloudy and rainy to the 60s or even 70 ish. Fall is a nice time of year.

Sorry couldnt answser you better on some of your questions...

Dan

Good Morning,
Things to do in late September and early October. Hostfest Sep 28- Oct 2; Sep 11 Military Northern neighbors Day; Sept 16 Minot Downtown Wine Walk.

As for bars, it's been a while since I have just sat in a bar. They have gotten so noisy with all of those TV's blaring, you just can't talk to someone across the table without yelling. Bootleggers and Blindduck seem to be the most popular bars in town.I don't know anything about the Pour Farm.

Phone service: Verizon

I have been to Kenmare several times. It is a quaint town on a lake (that you cannot fish from) that will soon grow. With the energy jobs picking up (wind and oil), it won't be long before the population hits 3,000. I will probably be up there again this Sunday. They also have a school, small hospital, and 18 hole golf course.
