Yes, it does get so cold you can't even breathe and yes it does get colder than -43 but after -10 is all just feels the same...snot freezing eyes watering can't feel my fingers or toes after 30 seconds cold. As for everything else, you will have to form your own opinion. Since you have children, you might like it. I hate it and can't wait to leave!

20.00 I think for most speeds over the limit....very low. -43F that is very very rare...the coldest temp ever in Grand Forks was -44 in 2004. That was the only time it was -40 or lower in Grand Forks in the last 12 years. Wind chilll yes....but temp below -40F quite rare. Now -33....-35 much more common esp along the northern tier and the Williston area.
But as you stated correctly....once you get down to -25 or so not much different...have to plug in the car (if outside) and be careful how long outside stuff.

My husband told me that I can't listen to what everyone states and he is still going to relocate because he like the area and has accepted employment. I did visit and people seem very friendly, but the town was much smaller, which was fine with me. I found the Grand forks area to be very nice/clean, and what I could determine about school systems I can think they can be described as A+ when comparing to a state that ranks #49 out of all the other states. Also, I think the state is good for raising children.
Question has anyone became nervous when it was actually time to make the move?

Yes! I'm moving back in 5 weeks to a place I've lived before, but I'm still nervous. That is so completely normal. The unknown is always scary. You're changing your whole life. Work, people, environment. It'd be weird if you weren't a little edgy.
No move is ever the same though, even when it's somewhere you've lived before. That's where that saying "You can't go home again" comes from I think. Last time I lived in this area was 10 years ago. And I know for a fact it's already very different, because I visited three years ago. We just have to take it a step at a time.
As far as your detractors go, don't worry about them. If it's true that they've never even been there, then nevermind them. If your instincts about the place are good, let yourself start getting excited.
I'm nervous, but focused on the positive. I'm excited to see what kind of job I'll get, where I'll live. I'm viewing it as all a big surprise. People can say that's childish or naive, but I think it's very smart. Law of attraction. You won't attract anything good with pessimism. Adults can take a few pointers from children.
Oh, this is out of left-field, but my mom went to see a psychic recently. We both believe in that kind of thing. She said to me, "Oh, and she said you won't have any problem getting a job." And I said, "Yeah, I know. "
I think that annoyed her a little bit when I said that. I think she found it arrogant. She's more of a realist than I am, so I think my faith and optimism secretly annoys her sometimes. lol

No weekends...only open 830-430 M-F....
For Grand Forks....the drivers license place is located on N Washington (north of Highway 2)...while for the plates and tags you go to the state office located in the Grand Cities Mall at 17th Ave S and S Washington.

Whoa... this makes me nervous. How are drivers in general in the area?
I was hoping to get away from predatory driving when I move from the area I'm in now. Personally, I couldn't care less if someone wants to endanger themselves, but the problem is (and it's a big problem in my area) that it usually ends up killing or injuring others when statistics and the laws of physics play out. And it jacks up insurance rates for everyone because of the elevated risk of driving in the area. So everyone pays in one way or another.
If ND gives a slap on the hand and a pat on the back for poor driving habits, what does that do to insurance rates in the area? How are the ND traffic statistics? I pay about $28 a month here for car insurance (I've never had a ticket, crash, or filed an insurance claim in my life). I'm told by the friendly insurance lady that it's only high because of the area I live in and that it would be cheaper in many other less populated areas. Am I being fed a line of BS?

I might get harassed for this but the drivers are TERRIBLE here. And I'm not just saying that because I hate it here, I really mean they are quite awful here. I agree it has to be with limited reinforcements for actually driving safely. $20 for speeding? big deal. People also cannot park here at all! I went to Minnesota and Texas and checked the parking lots for bad parkers and there were a couple, sure. Then I counted ones in Minot when we got back and there were 8 just parked around my car! People pull out way too far when they are turning, they don't check lanes before they pull over, they either drive too slow or are on your tail and I have never seen so many cars run the redlights! Yes, this happens everywhere but this happens EVERYDAY to me! It's scary. I will say I have had several people come up and say these things to me, so it's not just my opinion! Also, I think most people learn to drive on a farm, which is quite different than driving in town

Also, I sell car insurance. If you want just liability on your car, than that is probably what you would pay there. I also have not had any wrecks or speeding tickets (until recently, thanks, ND) and I pay $56 a month for full coverage and I have a 2010, so it's really not that bad.

My point being a lot of people have misconeptions on how cold it really is in ND.... I am a weather forecaster and look at data over all the state....and yes there a few nights of -30 each year....but predominately most days will have lows of -10 to -20F and highs 5 to 15F.... but as you said earlier for most folks when it gets below zero their scale of temps doesnt matter anymore. But it really isnt as cold as people always think. Same thing about Florida or south Texas or for that matter Phoenix....yes it is very warm there but usually not quite as bad as people minds think it is.
Here's hoping you go to someplace warmer....

Agree....At work we have had many people up from Twin Cities and they all say the folks dont know how to drive. I agree that many did learn in small towns/rural roads with much less traffic. Not used to the differences needed in spacing between vehicles and lane changes when in a larger town/city or interstate. And it was too funny when my now 5 yr old when he was younger was telling about the traffic lights...green means go, red means stop, and yellow means speed up. He has since been corrected...
