Hello everyone I know that I haven't posted in a while and thats because I've been in North Dakota!!! Let me vent my journey on here I started out in Fargo and it felt like it had large city amenmities in a small setting. I drove to Grand Forks at night during a blizzard at 45mph and I've never seen so many cars in ditches ipn my life but I a rookie ice road driver made it I liked Grand Forks since they had snow plows plowing stat this city was my first encounter with true North Dakotan weather and it was cold!!! The next night I drove to Minot and I've never seen such a bustling city it looked busier than my city back home, there was a steady flow of traffic and all the shops were busy. The next morning I mad my trip to my destination of Williston. I decided Williston because I want qucik cas since I am a college student starting in Grand Forks in the Fall. I arrived to Williston and they had so much traffic when compared to Minot but that was probably because they don't plow there roads very often and my ride into/through town was bumpy It's true what everyone says about here because I found a job within an hour of arriving here they're hiring everywhere here!!! They only have one McDonalds and its always full but they don't have enough staff to work, thank goodness for high schools students since they seem to be the only ones working the lower paying jobs. For some reason I fell in love with this little town the moment I came, I don't know why since it's cold and the floors are slippery but I did I genuinley like this town. The biggest negative is housing, it's non-exsistant. I litterly spend two hours a day looking and applying eveywhere but there are no vacancies unless your a senior citizen. There's only so many apartments that today I've litterly covered every place available thats for rent. It's actually easier to buy a home here than to find an apartment rental here and there housing prices aren't so outrageous they range from 100k to 300k for decent housing. I can't buy a home since I have to leave for college so I've been living in my car and it's actually not so bad, a ton of people do it. So yes I've survived -17 and lower nights and have not died so its doable. There is a lack of activites to do around here though which kinda stinks they don't have a Starbucks, Target, Denny's or a mall just a cheap JCPenny. A word of advice if your fromk pout of state and you dress "nice" your going to stand out like a sore thumb, I've had people just stare at my clothing and cool shoes a lot, these people aren't into fashion it seems but I am so I'ma keep dressing the way I do since I look really cool haha People here are a hit or miss, I met so many friendly people here who were genuinley nice and I've had people mug me (eyball, staredown) for no reason whatsoever especially when I'm in my out omf state car and I've seen a few confederate flags hanging around as well but I don't wanna get into that I just honk and give them the finger But there really are awesome nice people here I've managed to make a few friends snce I've arrived and there not that bad they're pretty cool too. So yeah I though I shared my journey to North Dakota with you guys since I've talked about it on here a few times.

Sounds like our family is going to fit right in. Our idea of dressing up is a new pair of wranglers and clean boots. The town we currently live in have a 2400 people, no McDonalds, no JC Penney,no Wal-Mart.
I am excited to move to the Williston area. Now, I just have to find housing

I was reading your post, thinking it sounded so familiar. LOL You are who I was thinking of! I'm glad you're liking it here in Williston, it's small but it's not that bad. You could definitely do worse.

I can't believe you're living out of your car, though! I put my 2 weeks in so my last day at the office is next Friday, but I'll send you a PM and see if I can't get you a home cooked meal or something!

Housing Is very hard to find here you have to be activity searching since private housing have no waiting list but public housing does and I checked today that there were 22 people on a list for a three bedroom that hasnt moved since May also networking is important but yeah it sounds like youll fit right in

Your welcome it seems that the area that is plowed most are the ones out in the sticks since larger cities seem to plow a good 100 miles out the highway

ManyStates,

Thank you so much for posting this journey. So many people have asked and of course, the people that answer are the people that already have housing, already have jobs and the best they can do is give the best that they know.

For you to post this brings a new perspective to a lot of folks.

I have a friend that recently went to Williston, but he had housing waiting from a company down here that has a few houses on long term lease. But, just in case, he took his camper on the back of his truck. He wasn't there but a few days and had several offers from people, to rent his camper. haha
