Those of you who know the Bottineau and Lake Metigoshe area (MikeyToo?):
Do you think a new Bed and Breakfast could make a go of it in that area? And if so, which particular location?
This has been my particular fantasy for several years, but I keep thinking I'll lose all my money and so have been chicken to try and keep taking regular jobs instead.
If not a B&B, is there any other sort of business which might do well in that area? Any needed service or product?
I haven't yet contacted the area C of C which I know I should do, but as I said above, I think because I want it so much I've just been almost embarassed to pursue this dream.
Anyway, please be realistic in your replies. If you think a B&B would be unlikely to survive, please say so (and why). On the other hand, if you have any words of encouragement I'd love to hear them!

Thanks so much!
Not so sure about how a Bed/Breakfast might do in this area. I do know for sure that we need another barber in Bottineau. Carl, our only barber in Bottineau is hoping another one comes to Bottineau, because he can't even take a break. Any experience barbers looking for a location in a reasonable stable economy might find a home in Bottineau....
I think Bottineau could really use a McDonalds or a Burger King. I think a fast-food chain would do quite well. Also, our dollar store closed, so it would be nice to have another dollar store. Oh, we also need a dog groomer, there isn't one in this town anymore!
Yeah, I'm originally from Botno and I agree that some fast food places would be nice. DQ, The Dario, and Subway were nice, but nothing beats the convenience of a 24/7 McDonalds when you're hungry in the middle of the night.
Also, a barber is a great suggestion. Too bad Denny retired, I always thought he did a good job. Carl seemed to do fine though the few times I've went to him while back in town.
Back to the original thought, a Bed & Breakfast, Bottineau is not exactly a resort town for tourist. I would contact the Bottineau tourist center and talk with them. Obtain their monthly count of tourist, tourist dollars spent, attractions, etc. Then check on local hotel/motel for occupancy rate. If there was a B&B by the International Peace Gardens, I would stay there, but it would take a savvy person to market that area.
Our B&B here in Minot stays busy but we have a severe shortage of rooms to stay in. Also, we receive a lot of Canadian business.
Good luck with your venture.
