LOL!!!! When we got bored driving around Rugby, we used to go to Harvey and drive up and down Main and flirt with the guys there. Lots of fun barn parties in the summer out that way too. Good times. Very good times!!!!
*dying to go back now*
As soon as I tell my guy what you said about the good duck/goose hunting, he'll be wanting to call the U-Haul and reserve a truck so we can be there for this season...yikes!

Your friend would love Devils Lake...back when you were in the Rugby area in the late 80s and early 90s it was very dry and Devils Lake was almost dried up. The mid to late 90s into the early 00's have been very wet and Devils Lake has grown and grown tremendously. Unfortunately it has caused many flooding issues in the DVL area when it was expanding....namely Church's Ferry dissolving as a town and re-building of roads around the lake, but for bird hunting it is fabulous as DVL is in the main migrating band for many species during the spring and fall. Fishing is also huge at DVL now. Many pothole lakes now in the entire area from Rugby to Jamestown area due to excessive rains in the last decade so bird hunting is at its best.

Actually, Dan, that's how this whole thing got started.
My guy started talking about going to Devil's Lake to go hunting this year. I kind of made noise about it, due to the added $125.00 nonresident hunting license he'd have to get and the distance up there for a weekend hunt didn't seem worth it.
HE said, "well, just think - if we LIVED there....." and left it at that. Which got my wheels turning in every direction, since I've missed ND since I left it...that's one reason I haven't been back, it would be so hard to leave again and come back to the cities.
My guy and I met right here in the metro area, but he's as much a lover of country living as I am. He frequently goes and spends time at his brother's house because his brother lives upstate, just to get away from the city. We both agreed that when the lease is up here, we're gone.
He's been to ND and loved it there as well as my having lived there for a few years. Because I'm very familiar with Rugby and already know people there, plus the apparent job opportunities that exist in our fields, plentiful hunting for the guys, AND the cheap housing, it's the fit for us.
I just wish I could break our lease and go, though!

Well, Harvey isn't that far from Rugby. I believe 44 miles. My dad had a bar in Harvey, a long time ago. Beer was 5 cents a glass then. But, the truth of the matter we are all NoDak's. I belive just down to earth good people. Some may think rednecks, or something of that. Truthfullly, people from North Dakota are nosey. But not nosey in the sense they want to get into your business, but nosey in the sense of being a good neighbor and want to take care of the people around them.
Anyway, that has always been my opinion of NoDak's. If it has changed, please inform..
Thanks be to God..... )

That kind of mentality (being neighborly and friendly) is how I met my guy....I was moving into this complex with just my daughter, a couple of male teenage friends of hers along to help, and my 12 year old son. Needless to say, it was a tad disorganized. My guy came out on his balcony and offered to help us. I thought at the time "This dude? is WEIRD!!!!" Goes to show how long it's been since that help strangers mentality has been a normal part of my life, huh?
Since getting to know him I see how friendly and helpful he is to people all the time - very uncommon around here, but it's just who he is. Not nosy as in "get in your business", but a genuine desire to assist when needed. He's totally smalltown Nodak at heart
Looks like it's a for-sure on the hunting this fall; and when we're up there I want to take a look around with regards to housing and employment. Spoke with my sister the other day and she's still very positive that we should make the move. I'm definitely thinking along the same lines

Rugby ND
Lived in Rugby for awhile and hated it. Sorry but have to tell the truth. Nothing to do and a very boring place.
Didn't find many places that were a good work place either. Sorry. Won't come back. Dakotagirlnomore
