Default Jamestown or surrounding?

Hello,

I'm wondering how the Jamestown area is for raising a family.
Is it a friendly town? Are there decent towns near by if the housing prices are better? Is there anything for teenagers to do?...sports, live music, horses...

Thank you!

I've never lived there, but had a brother who lived there for a while. He did not like it very well. He liked his job and his co-workers, but when he got married and started having children, they ended up moving to Bismarck. I have visited it several times, and it seems to be ok...but it doesn't really grow or anything. Seems like it just exists. My brother said it seems like not many new people ever move there, they just get married, and have kids, and they stay and get married and have kids, and die off, etc.. but if you are from Jamestown, I'm sure you'd like it. Family ties...hopefully someone from Jamestown will post on this site and defend it or give you a better perspective on the town. I know it is around 15,000 people, and has some industrial jobs, state hospital, and small shopping mall, along the interstate, etc...

Corbay is on a distinguished road
Coming to you from Jamestown.

Lifelong resident.

Jamestown is a GREAT place to raise a family. Excellent eduction system. In fact we just built a new state of the art Sr. High, and remodeled the old one into a middle school.

There are plenty of parks, hunting, fishing, water sports, and just about anything you could want all withing 20 minutes of town.

Jamestown has held it's own over the years, and is about to experience some growth due to the Energy Park (ethanol plant) being constructed soon.

Housing is still quite affordable with starter homes going for around $50K, nicer homes going for under $100K.

Plenty of jobs in both manufacturing, and other fields. In fact Goodrich is on a hiring binge and can not find enough engineers, and other workers.

Now the down side. Shopping leaves a little to be desired. Not a huge selection. Most people go to Fargo and some to Bismark to shop for clothes, although they did just break ground on the new Wally World Super Center.

We have a new coffee shop, and fine restaurant.

We also have a layed back version of a young professionals group called After5, and are always open to new people Jamestown After 5 - Home

I find that Jamestown in a way fits the first description well.

I like the area personally but I also like dickinson in away because it is kind of smalltownish. But, my wife could not live there, she would go nuts.

I guess it all depends on what your family is into. Even if a town has everything you want, it may not have what you kids do, and kids who are idle or bored have a bad tendency to get involved in things they shoudn't, and ND can be bad for that if you go looking for it. Especially drinking.
