Default Crime

My spouse works in law enforcement here, and says it's mostly minor stuff ( bar fights, car break ins, etc...) due to the influx of outsiders doing reclamation work. Lots of rumor and innuendo going around about gangs, etc... However, we are locking our doors more and we're both generally armed ( I have a carry permit, but I've had it for years).

that having been said, the jails have been full some weekend night. Certain bars attract an unsavory clientele, and you do some 'non-locals' at the mall, hanging outside the grocery stores, etc.... However, the Feds have sent in Border Patrol agents, federal marshals, etc... To police the area after the flood.

there were 2 shootings in the past year, but these were prior to the flood. 1 was a drunken Indian from Montana who got offended by a racial comment by a hotel owner, and the other was an illegal alien from Somalia. Previously arrested, but releases by immigration judge in Minneapolis since Somalia has no gov't. He worked in oil fields and was reputedly involved in drug dealing with some of the local Indians.

lots of folks are talking about this subject in town, but nothing major yet. Locals hope they go away when winter comes, but if they do, they'll just be back next spring. Eventually, however, some out-of- the- area carny will do something bad. It's just a matter of time. Still, it's much better here than almost anyplace else.
