The evidence for societal breakdown keeps piling up. -These are just the ones who've been caught.
Law Enforcement readily admits they are understaffed and underfunded. If one were to speculate, it is entirely possible that many similar crimes are going undetected.

Usually in these cases, it does seem like the female predators skate by easier then the males. The fact that she held what would be considered a "position of authority" over the male students, makes it just as creepy to me as if the students were female and the teacher a male. I hope she gets a good stiff sentence, and when she gets out, she should never be allowed near minors.

societal breakdown? You are really sheltered if you think things like this never happened in the past. Only rapid spread of media and instant access to information make things seem worse. I suggest turning off the TV/computer and not looking at the news. Society is not breaking down, in fact it's never been in a more peaceful state, at least if you turn off the TV and just look at the average person living their lives.
Also.. older men dating and marrying 'minors' was commonplace even in the US before modern times. Before modern times is when things were more barbaric, imo. Wholesale slaughter of millions over religion and land. Thankfully we are growing out of that. Back in the not to distant past they used to whip children at school with rulers. Smoke in hospitals.

You're right, I've led a sheltered existence. Growing up on a Northern Plains indian reservation kind of kept me out of the mainstream of the "peaceful society" you make reference to.
As for TV, I don't watch it. I should probably turn off the computer but I'm laid up with a bad hip right now and have nothing else to do.
-Can't really respond to the "older men marrying minors" thing, - no personal experience with that sort of activity- although I've read the novel "Lolita", and have worked with a number of convicted pedophiles.

As for society being beyond "wholesale slaughter over religion and land", the U.S. government once sent me on an all expense paid trip overseas to do a little slaughtering. Two of my younger brothers have done multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. They inform me that "wholesale slaughter" is still in vogue.
