I did not know there was a township named Haram in England. There is an island off the North Sea coast of Norway so named. It is north of Bergen and Trondheim too, I believe, near the port of Alesund. Haram was my mother's maiden name, same as the island where she was borne.Lahuela

Haram is a family name on a island called Haramsøy, near Aalesund in norway. The district called " Haram kommune" seek for that word .øy = island

The question that always came to my mind with respect to my mother's maiden name and self-same place name of her birth was, what came first, the place name or the family name? I would like to know what 'haram' may have meant in old Norse.
