Default Small Farming in the greater Fargo area?

We're still looking at the Fargo area, but now we're focused outside of town, but within the County. Can anyone provide info on which area of Cass County may be better to try and start a small farm operation? Not really looking at planting as much as organic chickens, sheep, and goats. Looking to buy a small farm with over eight acres. Will still need to keep a real job near one of the towns so it can't be too far out. Am doing a lot of research, but it's difficult to visualize on the internet. Thanks for those who can help.

Keith

I have an uncle in law that has "hobby" farm in Hillsboro, which is 40 miles from Fargo. I'm not sure if that's still in Cass County. The Fargo Forum (newspaper) puts out a weekly section called Farmers' Forum in Friday's paper that is 80 percent classifieds for farm land, equipment, animals, labor, etc. I would check there.

I'm not really sure that one area of the county would be any better than another area. I would think that it depends on what's available that is within your budget and close enough to Fargo for commuting.

You'll like living out in thie country. If you want, I can refer to an realtor I know in Fargo. He can help you find the place of your dreams. I had a hobby farm north of Minot AFB, just south of Lansford. I had 16 acres with 1/2 of it kept wild. You should have seen the sunsets, deer, pheasants, and the two hawks that moved in. It was beautiful. If you buy a hobby farm, just remember the cost will be considerably higher than in town. ct
