Mott, North Dakota
There are a lot of abandoned farms around Mott because of small farms going out with droughts, rust on crops, grasshoppers so the area has gone over to large farming companies.
Mott in itself is a small town that is struggling for survival but making it from what I have heard. Maybe a good place to retire? The Cannonbal River flows close by and the beauty is unsurpassed.

Could be. Depends on what kind of things you need as a retired person out there. I am not sure where Mott is in relation to bigger cities, but its worth keeping in mind if you have health issues where hospitals are located at.

Mott is one of the towns that lost a lot of people. At one time, there were several stores, Skartvedts had a dairy close by and had milk delivery, the railroad trains came rumbling through, there were two drug stores, a couple of car agencies. Tehn the small farmers began to fade away as did the town. The railroad tracks were torn up, now mot much is left.

I still miss the school and classmates. I was a country hick so had no time to socialize because of farm chores. I remember Mabel Planer, our teacher in the 7th and 8th grades. She was a very good teacher. The 5th grade was the worst but things got better as we went along. Our principal was Mr. Stubbins who was very highly regarded. I think of Mott quite often.

This would be a good place for pheasant hunting, fishing for cat fish and small fish as well as being out doors. They don't have any shopping stores so you would have to go to Lemmon or Hettinger but this would bring out the pioneer spirit. We lived a few miles from town, had about 50 head of horses, some cows, as large herd of sheep, and beef cattle, We also farmed wheat, corn and oats. Now I believe one farming company owns most of the small farms. I lived there from 1935 to about 1940 as A kid from 9 to 14.
