Is Fargo as cool as the city's ... (West Fargo: homes, university)

While I personally havent visited the city's web site, I do know Fargo quite well as I live about 70 miles north of Fargo along the MN/ND border. Fargo and the whole area (Fargo-West Fargo-Moorhead) has seen lots of growth and new businesses in the last 10-15 years. Certainly the "big" city for about 100 miles around with lots to do and more cultural activities than any city in the area. FM metro area is around 150,000 +/-. Housing is also pretty reasonable...not even the highest in the state. So....it is an exciting town? Just depends on where you live and what you consider exciting. No one will mistake it for the Twin Cities or Denver that's for sure. And yes, winters can be cold but we have nice summers too...it isnt cold yearround.

Thanks DaninEFG. Fargo looks like a pretty cool town. My wife and I have never been out west before and are looking at moving away from the east coast for a while.

What part of the east coast....from your name I assume you went to Clemson University in South Carolina....or have some relation to that university. Fargo is nice....it is quite flat...but 30 min to 1 hour east is lake country in Minnesota where a lot of people have cabins/homes near lakes for boating, etc. outdoor activities of all types are very popular...hunting, fishing and boating in the warm months and ice fishing and snowmobiling in the winter. Worth a vist at least if you want to get to a nice city away from all the hustle but yet have most ammenities you are used too.

Dont worry about the cold and snow. Yes it is cold here but that is what coat, hat and gloves are for.

Are taxes are higher in Minnesota?

Income taxes are higher in Minnesota, but property taxes are much higher in Fargo.

Downtown Fargo is nice on Friday and Sturday nights full of a large college population partying. Broadway from Main to 6th has more then a dozen bars ranging from blue-collar type bars all the way to very expensive martini bars.
If you visit Fargo Id recommend Friday and Saturday nights when college is in session, more people down there then people think.

Other then those two nights, Downtown Fargo is very quiet.

Downtown Moorhead is good if you like coffee shops and they do have some very brick devolopment that has gone up.

I would say on a coolness scale Fargo is about 7, its better then most places with a college its size but not as entertaining as some.
