My wife is a native North Dakotan of german decent and puts Olive Garden to shame too. Really not hard, especially the one in Fargo. Doesn't hurt we lived in Connecticut either in a community that had a good variety of cultures, Italian food being quite popular.

For me, I would like to have a real R/C Hobby shop similar to Wheels Wings & Hobbies in Mandan. I enjoy RC Car racing, with those things in some cases easily pull 50mph or more .

As for food, wouldn't mind a traditional Spanish restaurant.

Well, it would be nice to have an authentic Italian restaurant for sure here in Fargo. I miss my fave Italian restaurant from California. He was from Bari, Italy and made every order to order. No big batches of anything! It was just a little place, but the best Italian food ever!

The little places are always the best. Aren't there any good hole-in-the-walls out here?

I don't understand the comment of "we don't need anymore national chains like Applebees, TGIF, Ground Round...but we need an Olive Garden"...???? You can't get more "national chain" than an Olive Garden!

We definitely do not need anymore franchises like TGIF, Applebees, Ground Round.. Is the new Ruby Tuesday restaurant like them?
I guess I can handle you liking the Olive Garden: I'll take the Walrus, DiDonnas, and the Bistro over the Olive Garden any day of the week but I suppose that's a matter of taste. The premise that another restuarant on the river would add more drunk boat drivers however is frankly upsurd: Boaters arn't getting drunk at bars or restuaraunts (where 99.9% of the customers get into a car afterwards, not a boat), they're getting drunk on sandbars & in their boats.

We do happen to have place for pizza that reminds us of out east. That extreme pizza kitchen has the best pizza in our opinion by far over anything else here in Fargo.

I would love to have a Jamba Juice. I would also like a decent TexMex style mexican resturant. All the mexican places here are so bland. Not saying any of the other chain stores aren't bland, but I think a Chevy's or On The Border would put Mexican Village and Paradiso to shame.

Or how about a good Taqueria.

Oh yeah! Chevy's would be good. I haven't had good Mexican food since I left California.

Isn't it ironic with all the authentic Mexican food options I have living in MSP, I still have to have my Mexican Village fix when I am back visiting my hometown of Fargo ? Many of my friends are originally from the FM area, so it is a must that one brings back a provision of Mexi hot sauce after a trip to the homeland...:
We can get Village Hot sauce (kind of close) at some grocery stores in the Cities, but I wouldn't mind a Mexican Village nearby. Growing up, we thought it was da bomb !

My wife goes crazy for the mexican food, but I am used to the spanish food I have grown up on which is very different.

I will say this, I like those cloverdale hotdogs and meats. Awesome stuff.

I know this is an older collection of posts, but I was blown away when I saw this and how far they were in the process for finally opening an Olive Garden in good ol Bismarck.

A rough diagram of the Bismarck location.

According to a KXMB story on Feb 8, the company has filed paperwork with the City of Bismarck, and the city has granted the restaurant certain exceptions for them to build here. One exception is to have fewer parking spots than are normally required if they choose the out parcel in front of the new Home Depot store on State St, or the exception for landscaping if they choose to build where the International Restaurant recently closed. They stressed, however, that the company hasn't finalized yet. Seems like a lot of work filing paperwork for two different locations, drawing up restaurant layout diagrams, and seeking a lot of exceptions from the city. It's not the best Italian restaurant, but I could live on the bread sticks and soup!!!
