Default New talent in Photography recommendation?

I'm in the NE part of the state, planning an April '13 wedding. I'm looking for a photographer, probably newer because I'm loving the contemporary style I have been seeing, maybe someone just getting into the wedding business? Or specializes in another genre of photography but does weddings on the side?

Any recommendations?

note: I have been scouring FB pages, craigslist, and google. I would like some UND or NDSU student boards/forums but can't seem to find any, if you know of one (or another resource I should try) I'd appreciate it!

I just can't pay $1500 - $3000 plus $300+ milage and hotel for some of the bigger names around here. I'm willing to have someone for just a few hours, but I can't justify $1500 for coverage of JUST the ceremony. Having a few great pictures to show for it is important to me (not 100s of pics, I'm happy with just a couple great ones.)

Thanks for any names you can throw out there!

Hi,

I know of a photographer who is very inexpensive in the NE corner of the state. He does pictures from graduations, weddings to sporting events.

I hope its ok if I share a link for his business on here. PictureThisPhotos' Photos | SmugMug

If that link does not come through - its called picture this photos smug mug

There is also a link from Grand Forks called UND Underground-(College kids post on there) I noticed on there that a photographer is advertising on that site under the miscellaneous tab. The photographer was advertising for $100 an hour.

Good luck and contrats .

Just a thought, but Perhaps you should use a friend or relative. Especially if you aren't looking for a full service type photographer. There could be art students...Go check the boards on campus...they might have some notices. Since you are searching a year ahead you can search the boards after the fall classes start up again too. Or post your own add on the G.F. facebook garage sales page. You'll find someone.

Purchase 20 disposable cameras and hand them out to select individuals and tell them to capture what they can. When the wedding is over, collect the cameras and take them to the local Wal-Mart and have them put to digital on a CD. Then you can crop, turn, tamper with, all the photo's to give you the best of the best. The 20 disposable cameras should cost you about $150. and with today's technology, those cameras take outstanding quality photo's.
