There is a lot of growth happening in ND, especially Fargo and Dickinson. Is it a possibility that either of places could become a major or mid-sized city in a few decades? Could they be the next Houston?

Houston is considered the oil capitol of the US, and some Texans even claim it's the oil capitol of the world. The Bakken is a long ways from surpassing TX in oil production.

Places like Midland-Odessa, Bakersfield, Lafayette (La), and Anchorage are the type cities that Williston and Dickinson could become at best, probably over 20 or more years. Casper is probably an example in 5-10 years.

When the coal and coal methane boom was first happening around Gillette (Wyo) 20-30 years ago, Gillette was considered one of the toughest towns around, with high crime, murders, limited housing, and poor retail/services. The only people that would move there were people desperate for jobs. Now Gillette is one of the best overall communities in Wyoming, as it is prosperous, progressive business-wise, great schools, has a lot of culture, good neighborhoods.
