Default Canadian border

just have a question- Do you need a passport to cross the border in a car? I was thinking of going into Canada from I-29 thrui Pembina, but don't currently have a passport. I thought you won;t need one if you go by car until 2008. Is this true? Thanks!!

Here is a link to another thread on the dui subject here at CD
http://www.city-data.com/forum/alask...or-duis-2.html

But in simple terms...if you have a DUI in the last 10 years you will not be admitted into Canada. DUI is considered a felony in Canada. If it is after 10 years....you might be able to get across.

Yes, you absolutely need a passport - especially if you would like to come back over to US.

And you *can* get across with a history of DUI, they might not catch you at the border - but do NOT get pulled over IN canada - serious trouble.
You can take a class and fill out some paperwork and pay $300, and then you are ok to drive into/around canada.
