Been to Williston many many times...but not sure I've ever met a "redneck"...and yes, winters can be frigid...but not unlike any other midwestern town during winter season.

Another good reason to get your master electrician, just south of Minot, they are building a new refinery. The company will be needing all kinds of people. The newspaper mentioned that the average earner will be around $60,000 per year. That's above the ND average. So don't procrastinate, get that master electrician and apply for a ND license. See previous message above for State Electrical Board.

I didn't hear about this refinery they are building south of Minot? When did this all come about? I know the Ft. Berthold reservation are in the planning stages for a small refinery 15,000 a day. Also, they are in the study phase for a new 50,000 a day up in Williston. But never heard plans for a Minot refinery, let alone that it is being built? Is this in relation to the coal to gas they are looking into Mclean county near Washburn's Coal Creek station that they are talking about or looking into? Just curious.
In either case, it takes many many years for all the paperwork and studies to be completed before they can actually build. If people are talking about it, it may happen, but it is going to be a while before it gets started. I know the Williston refinery is in the study phase...they are currently working with a Houston based refinery builder and developer. But they said it would be at least 3 years before they could even begin to break ground on the Williston refinery because of all the studies, applications, environmental, etc... The Parshall-Makoti refinery has been in the planning stages for nearly 3 years, and still haven't begun construction yet. It would be nice though if Williston, Minot, and Parshall all get refineries...it will bring many construction and permanent jobs to western ND.

Chester, I read something in the Minot paper, an article about the oil moving eastward into the Parshall-Newtown area. They interviewed a local businessmen who was saying a refinery would be great in the Minot area to take advantage of the new oil discoveries in Parshall, and he said a refinery along highway 83 between Bismarck and Minot would be a perfect location. But, I think that was just talk. The only refineries I know that are in the planning stages are in Williston and Makoti. I also heard about the coal company by Washburn is in the running for that huge coal to fuel plant. It is suppose to cost billions of dollars and employee 3,000 people during construction, and 500-700 when production begins. Maybe this is what he was talking about?
