OH,almost forgot, the hardware closed a few weeks ago. There's only one bar in town right now but talk of some folks buying the other and reopening it.The school has been closed for years and some folks living there have it for sale and a lovely German couple was thinking of buying it as I heard.Sounds great because they talked of opening a German resturant there.Still have a P.O. and Cardtrol gas and a bank station, beautiful park, and friendly folks.

which house are you purchasing littlepuffer? there is a cardtrol gas pump that is in town, but you have to have a card for it. there is a branch of western state bank in upham that i think i still open from 8am until 3pm. and there is still a post office there open during the week and even on saturday.

electricity would be ottertail power out of fergus falls mn, phone/internet is SRT out of minot, cable i think is out of bottineau but i dont think it would be worth the price, satellite would be a better option.

SSGOODMAN, my wife is from Upham also and went to school there all 12 years before they closed it down. Did you live in town or on a farm? You wouldn't of know my wife, she left in 1971. Upham is a nice town, but not much to it. I was just there last month for a wedding anniversary. STill the same. ct6

littlepuffer,
If you still need the info on the gas card and for ottertail you can contact Steve Plorin who is the mayor or Shirley Vordeman who is the town auditor and is always knowledgable and helpful on everything. Both of their numbers are in the book if you do a whitepages.com search. If you heat with propane, you might want to get it filled asap as I was quoted 1.32 two weeks ago and it only goes up in the winter.I think I'm familiar with the house you purchased and if I'm not mistaken, the city owns 2 or 3 lots next to it that are for sale as well and Shirley can give you the info on that as well.
Let me know if I can help further and let me know when you get moved in.
I understand some folks from Colorado with a large family bought the old school.
I hope you like Upham,Take Care

Littlepuffer,
If I'm not mistaken, the home you just pruchased was a VA foreclosure. The 2 story reddish/pink house?
The people that lived there before were in the military and it has been vacant for nearly 2 years, but they and the guy before them put alot of money in the place fixing it up.
I was told the local bar owner had placed a bid on it a few weeks ago,but apparently you won it,,,,good for you,,,for a number of good reasons.
If you send me a message,I might be able to help you further on the phone numbers as well and this isn't the place with the extra city lots next to it,but it has a huge lot I know.
Where are you moving from?
Take Care,Alaska315

to get a gas card call Smette Oil at 701-768-2955. tyler is the owner now and a real nice guy. Ottertail's number is 800-257-4044. And you should contact Shirley Vormestrand, she is the lady that handles garbage/water/sewer services. they live in a house that is west of the highway that goes by the school, i wont post her number since its probably her house phone number, but a google search or check the phone book under Floyd and Shirley Vormestrand. also, i dont know if you know who he is but i am real good friends with Eric Holen who grew up in Hazen and lived in Upham for about 10 years. and did you get the big pink house or the old pastor's house that is across the street? i know both of them are were for sale awhile ago.

and alaska, do you happen to know how much they bought the school for? i heard 2 weekends ago when i was home for the wedding that they wanted like $100,000 for it, seemed outrageous to me.

ssgoodman,
I am not sure how much they sold the old school for,but it was listed on the interent at 100K and the add specifically said they wouldn't come down any lower than that, lol, somebody made alot of money on that place somewhere along the line.
The house as littlepuffer11 said,,according to the address she posted is the 2 story pinkish house that has sat empty the past few years at 307C Av. and that was a VA foreclorsure, but it is still listed as for sale with realty 12 and the VA on their site.Love to hear if it has for sure been sold.
Seems like everything under 20k has been selling pretty fast in the surrounding areas all of a sudden.Wonder what's up with that.
Yes,Upham would be lost without Shirley.I don't know what they pay her,but it's not nearly enough for all she does.
You must have been in town for Dan's wedding.
