Hi I mostly lurk on the Montana board but on occasion will stray across the boarder so to speak. I grew up on some very good Mexican food (border food mostly) and when I came to Montana 10 years back I found that authentic Mexican food in this part of the country is not to be found anywhere ! Fresh seafood ? Forget it ! Sure you can find local lake fish here and there but try finding fish that isn't contaminated with mercury or PCBs. To me a Mexican restaurant that puts cheddar cheese on everything, or if they have a meat item that contains hamburger meat then they are nowhere close to being authentic !

We use to go to a restaurant called Seven Seas in Mandan when I was a kid. It was a nicer, seafood/steak/pasta type of restaurant. This was when I was a kid, but I wonder if it's still open? You might want to try if it is.

When I think of Mexican food in Bismarck, I think of Taco Johns, lol

Yup, Seven Seas is still there, in the Best Western in Mandan. And it's probably still decorated the same way as when you were a kid! It's a bit dated, but the food is good.

Thumbs up Los Amigos!!!!

There's a ton of Mexican fare restaurants in the Bismarck-Mandan area. You've got Panchero's (fresh tortillas), Qdoba, 5 Taco Johns, 3 Taco Bells, Fiesta Villa (great location!), Paradiso (Ew), "Great Taco's" at Kirkwood... But the best, by far, is Los Amigos. When we moved from Orange County to Bismarck we were disappointed with the Americanized Mexican there, until we discovered Los Amigos. Los Amigos is located on S 3rd St next to Kirkwood Mall across from Applebee's and the Ground Round. The owner, from San Diego, and his wife, from Mexico, along with a mostly Latino staff serve up the most authentic food I've found in ND. Even though I've since returned to OC, when I do go back it is the first restaurant I hit up. The owners wife has toned down a few of the recipes to better suit the bland taste buds of most mid westerners, but just ask and she'll make it Mexican (Sonora) home-style for you. Give it a try, you'll love it!
As for seafood, you've got the chains in Bismarck Red Lobster, Long John Silvers, etc... But like a few have said the out dated Seven Sea's in Mandan has great seafood. Any of the more upscale restaurants in Bismarck also have some pretty decent seafood; East 40, Bistro, Four Seasons, The Pier.

The Mexican Restaurant that was on Burdick is now closed. But a new family started one by Joshua Plaza, called Mi Mexico. It opens Jan 21st.

The closest place you'll find a place like them would probably be in the Minneapolis area. I heard they opened a couple Trader Joe's in the Minneapolis area and they were so popular, they had to hire traffic police for the parking lots.
Wife and I are just waiting for a buyer for our house and we will be moving to Lake Metigoshe, near Bottineau, ND.
If your looking for a turn-key home on the central coast of CA, please let me know....

What about Winnipeg? They have some great ethnic restaurants. It's closer than BM or GF. ..?

If you are ever in Grand Forks go to Sanders 1907 - Dakota Cuisine. They fly in all their seafood daily.
