Default Oil

Oil has already found itself in Minot. According to the geologist, the Bakken formation encompasses about 90% of ND. Minot is already hosting several oil companies, and more are coming. Minot's housing is 50% of last years availability due to the influx of military and oil personnel. I'm surprised that we haven't received more contractors trying to build homes up here. I do know of one contractor that couldn't understand the basement concept, why there were basements in homes (California person). During this morning's meeting, they now expect this oil to continue for 20 years or more. Previously they expected 10 years. The average job for this oil is about $60,000. Anyone interested should look for Minot's newspaper and see how many jobs are available. ct

I am curious though, if there is such an influx of oil personel moving to Minot, why does jobservice north dakota show less people working in Minot this year than last year, and even less from the previous year before that? I noticed the number of workers in Williston has increased over 500 each year, nearly 2,500 in the past few years? I keep seeing the same 2 oil companies being promoted as moving into the new Energy park in Minot, Pumpco and Pure Energy...they keep saying over and over and over how Minot is becoming the mecca for oil field companies? Both haven't even completed their buildings, and both announced last year they were building in Minot? I have been tracking Williston, and they have new oil companies opening up almost every week, but Williston doesn't advertise this. You just see in the Williston Help wanted adds about the new companies are hiring for their new offices that have just opened up shop in Williston. NOT being sarcastic, but where and who are all of these new oil companies flocking to Minot? If the Minot news keeps repeating over and over the same 2...I would think they would mention all of the others as well.
One other thing I noticed about Minot vs. Williston. The companies moving into Williston are not asking for hand outs $$$ and free land, etc... didn't Minot basically pay one of these companies like $600,000 to come in and build a $1.2 million dollar facility (and they haven't even built their building yet)??? I know many companies moving into Williston's numerous energy parks spend their own money and just build. There are new warehouses and shops popping up all over that town...they just leveled another 240 acres west of Williston for more.
