Pardon my ignorance please
...I just like to learn new things all the time and I was wondering what the main thing is that drives North Dakota's economy? You don't hear about ND much, well ya dont hear about Indiana much either! Just curious what life is like there. Conservative? Liberal? Gimme the rundown. Thanks!

Energy in the western part of the state. Ag & manufacturing in the Eastern 1/2. Fargo is a big college, and high tech town. The largest Microsoft office outside of Redmond, WA is in Fargo.
North Dakota tends to be very conservative with it's local and state leaders, but tend to elect Democrats to Congress to bring home the farm pork.
Very peaceful life, low crime, good schools. Chilly winters, nice summers.

You have to remember, our entire state has only 640,000 people. I think we do pretty good for ourselves for the number of people, and what we accomplish as a state. We also have SOME industry...example Bobcat skid loaders were born and raised in Gwinner and Bismarck, with their office in Fargo. Like Corbay said...energy in the west, education and business in the east...agriculture all around. Conservative in that we tend to elect republicans locally and state and Presidential...but Democrats when it comes to our Washington reps...probably because of our heavy agriculture depends a lot on fed subsidies, etc..

The big things here are Farming, mining (gas and coal) We also do Ok on tourism and hunting tourism is starting to grow, there are a lot of diffierent industries around the state, and there are 2 air force bases, which may not sound like a big deal but when your whole state is only 600,000 that brings a lot of $$ into the area.

Actually not most recently. Its just more profitable to drill in ND now. Oil has been around ND since 1956, I believe. I'm sure someone will correct me on the exact date...
