I think the going was good till the weather question. Right now its -4 with a windchill of about -30, tomorrow the high temp is supposed to be -4. This is in Bismarck. Generally speaking the northeast part of the state is usually colder than the southwest. Housing in ND is almost always cheaper than most places in the US. Finding a place with 2-3 acres in towns are usually not that common, but in housing developments that are starting to be swallowed up by cities like Bismarck its not too hard to find a place like that.

Ummm... never been in such cold temps
Those temps worry me a lot. I'm a real snow lover but I've never lived in such cold temps. I think the coldest I've ever been in is maybe 0 with wind chills -10 or so and this lasted for no more than 24-36 hours. In the NC mountains we don't usually get that cold or stay cold for very long. Right now, we hardly get more than 1-4" of snow when it snows which is getting less every year.
We are looking at some different places, small towns, that offer some good homes for low prices. I have only seen a couple that offer any acreage with it. Most of these homes have been in the north central part of the state, like Minot. We want to be able to puchase a home and pay for it completely or only have to pay 10-15k remaining. Since we are on a limited budget we are looking for something <75k if we can find it. I want to live in an area that is not entirely flat but has some rolling hills. I'm not a fan of flat lands nor do we want to live in a town with more than 2k population. Any helpful suggestions?

Small town prices are CHEAP. My son got a house in MAX, about 35 miles south of Minot for $25,000. He spending about 10K fixing it up, but will have a very nice 1600SF place. I have visited ND many times in the past 6 years. The house prices in places like Bismarck are shy rocketing, while the small, far out towns still have many good buys. I know, because I have looked in Bismarck, Minot, Rugby and other smaller towns. Good luck!
P.S. Remember, the are a lot of active ICBM missile silos in northwestern ND!

I grew up outside of Litchville, ND and its safe to say the town is dying, like most of rural ND. I still go back a lot though, and I really like it there. But, not much going on these days, a lot of main street is vacant, but on the plus side, i know houses sell for about 10-15k or so. Some may be a little more expensive though. Most of the businesses are either for sale, or closed. The cafe was the latest to go under. Still have a gas station, general store (grocery, hardware, etc), drive-in, newspaper, bar (which can get busy on the weekends!), and a Wells Fargo. It's about 25 miles from Valley City, about 40 from Jamestown, and 85 from Fargo, so they are easily accessible.

I am trying to find some contact information for the Nelson family, who moved from Seattle to Litchville around 1965. I believe the kids names were Margie, Becky, Jerry and Andy(?). If anyone in the area knows them, I'd love to hear from them, and would be pleased if you can pass my info along.
Thanks--

LOL!
That is sooo true! I live in Zeeland. Before I moved here, everyone knew I was coming and when.
When I leave and go to CA to visit family, I come home to all sorts of stories of me and my life; I did things even I didn't know I did... it is really weird.
Other than that; I really like the town.
