Default Best/Favorite restaurant in your city.

In your opinion what are the best restaurants in your city and why.

My personal favorite for Bismarck is what is now called the east 40 chophouse and tavern, but it became my favorite back in the days when it was Caspars East 40. The food has always been great, the ambience is by far the best in Bismark. I also went there in my younger days for any special dates, prom etc. so there is a lot of memories there too. I will throw in the best fast food in town, which is McDowells Big Boy. the pizza burgers flying style are of course legendary. The alpine burgers are great too. Things like the Brown or Purple cows are a must try also.

I remember the East 40 in Bismarck. It was the dress up, nice place to go out and eat (although I was a kid when I lived there). I remember the Big Boy as well ... was a popular hang out for those cruising main.

If I ever get back to Bismarck, I want to go to Kroll's kitchen for knoephla soup. I also remember King's burger place that was north of town, is that still in business?

I have been living here since 1978 and never heard of it, and I used to live just north of bismarck so I guess not. Also what used to be north of Bismarck is all pretty much in bismarck. When i first moved here, 83 was still 2 lanes and driving into town the first traffic light was at interstate ave. Times have changed.

King's (diner?) was out by the KMart, sort of. I left the summer of 79 and I'm pretty sure it was there then.

Is Peacock Alley still there?

i was surprised last time i was in bismarck at how much its sprawled to the north, i remember coming into town on 83 and there was stan pukelick chevy and nothing much else out there. used to eat at kroll's diner in mandan when i lived in bismarck, was a great place to grab breakfast at 3am after a party.

my favorite restaurant in fargo is probably Doolittle's (the fire on the patio is really enticing when driving on 25th st) or Acapulco although havent been there since they relocated.

Yes peacock alley is still there. Back in '79 I think The super valu and K-mart were still sharing the same building, the only restuarant was the K-mart diner, I didn't know it had a name, never thougt of it as much of a "restaurant" but to each his own.

I asked my mom about this and the place is called The Wood House - I don't know where I got King's from?? LOL. It was treat to go there when I was a kid ... they had good burgers and shakes.

Is The Grainery still in Fargo (was in the mall)? We stop in Fargo on the way to MN and have their beer cheese soup.

The Grainery is no longer I've been back in Fargo for 4 1/2 years and it's been gone that long. But there is still a restaurant in that location, it's called Grizzlies. My favorite non-chain restaurant in Fargo is Acapulcos, it is the most authentic Mexican food in the area.

Funny, when you described the place I was thinking of woodhouse, but thats definitiely not by K-mart. but it was the only burger joint on that end of town back then. They are still open, and yes they have great burgers, greasy and messy if you like them that way, which I do. The double cheeseburger deluxe and a cherry sprite float was my favorite as a kid.
