Well Ive had about all i can take of the east coast. I am researching a couple states and ND really sparks my intrest. Looks Awesome out there and i find myself drawn in.....only thing makes me slightly nervous is the cold and work situations. I would like to buy a small farm.

I was raised in the Fargo area after I graduated from college I moved to Denver, Colorado. After I got married and had a couple of kids I thought, I had enough of the big city and wanted to raise my kids in a smaller town with a slower paced lifestyle, and Fargo is the biggest city in North Dakota. I moved back to this area about 5 years ago, and don't resent it at all. Yes, it gets cold here but you learn to adjust. It's about 5 degrees out now and my 8 year old is out shoveling the driveway and playing in the snow and is loving it. The weekend we left Denver there was a quadruple homicide, I'm not sure if we have had that many in Fargo since we moved back. Come visit ND and see what we have to offer.

Hello Cancan,
Don't worry about the weather, you'll adjust fairly quickly. I'm from the south and I'm now on my 22nd year here. I love the 4 seasons we have here and also, this gives me a break from the lawn work. I have two hobbies, one indoor and one outdoor. It's nice to be able to do both. As for a small farm, everyone who moves out here wants a small farm next to a major city. If you are willing to move out in the middle of the state, where there are hardly any conveiences, you'll have lots of choices. If there is a small farmstead at a low price, that should tell you about the condition of the house. Expect to put in a few thousand dollars. Just giving you a heads up. |

Thanks magic....Im really thinking of buying a house in a small town and a farm nearish there, not going to necessarily live on the farm land right off.

Hello Cancan,
We are going to be moving back to ND (for the 3rd time) after the end of this school year. We love it there. But my wife keeps telling me to stop telling everyone else how great of a place it is because then everyone will start coming there and ruining it. Don't take that the wrong way. I'm not saying you coming there would ruin it. I think you know what I mean. Read the other posts here about the very same thing you are interested in. Kind Regards, Dave N. <>< |

Devils Lake is nice but also abit pricier than other areas, like further out for example as one mentioned, and there are plenty of small towns with cheap houses.Like the other poster said, plan on spending a few bucks for up dates tho.I would stay on Hwy 2 and move closer to Minot for jobs, shopping healthcare etc.and there are plenty of small towns there abouts with nice inexpensive houses.I bought a home in a small town and love it here.Won't find much on the net tho as many realtors don't have web sites,Good luck, let me know if I can help
