6) Looking for a place where people are friendly but respect your privacy - and your right to do things your own way as long as you harm no one else;
7) Looking for a place where vicious gossip is not the sole entertainment;
8) Looking for a place where hunting is still not just a sport, but an acceptable and food-supplying activity;
9) Looking for a place that has four seasons, at least one with snow;
10) Looking for a place that doesn't have hurricanes, or millions of people evacuating away from them, who physically attack gas station and food store owners who run out of supplies.

3. There are very few and oftentimes no traffic jams;
4. The communities appear to be well maintained without being overly intrusive;
5. There doesn't appear to be any concrete jungles there, like there are here in California and many other states;
6. The state controls its budget without incurring large deficits or charging its residents high taxes;
7. The public schools are well run and safe
8. Most of the people there share a high moral standard and work ethic;
9. From what I have observed from reading stories in the local papers, many people there still take the time to get to know and help out their neighbors; and
10. I look forward to enjoying a slower pace of life where I can work in my garden.
Wyoming has all those things to, but without being a flat, ugly, ****hole.

Lessons on Life

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in

summer, and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.

The first son said that the tree wa s ugly, bent, and twisted.

The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise.

The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.

The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree's life.

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.

If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.

Moral:

Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.

Don't judge life by one difficult season.

Persevere through th e difficult patches and better times are sure to come some time or

later.

Have a nice day....

MikeyToo, you might very well have salvaged what is left of my life with this beautiful story. Thank you so much.

You can make those points for a number of places in the U.S. though...particularly in the Midwest. So again, that sort of poses the original poster's question. Is there anything at all that makes ND 'stand out'?
