All I know is that it's a relatively small town on Lake Sakakawea in the west central part of the state.

My wife's parents live just off Highway 23 (or NewTown road as they call it) just west of Hwy 83. I personally have only been out that way twice...to visit a friends cabin near Parshall Bay that was on the lake...and was is correct. Newtown is on the Fort Bethold Indian reservation....but it is more than just a Native town...it does have a community college...a casino...and is in an area of oil and gas exploration. It is in near the Lake and on the Missouri River and is an excellent hunting and fishing area.

New Town is a nice little town. It is on the Fort Berthold Reservation. It is half way between Minot and Williston. It is a very busy little town in the summer, because the town swarms with tourists that come for fishing, camping, and gambling. Many people have summer homes around the New Town area. North Dakota's longest bridge spans Lake Sakakawea to the west of New Town. On the west end of the bridge you'll find camping, rv parks, 4Bears casino, museum, tribal offices, and also residential areas. The town itself has a bussling main street with a variety of little stores, 2 grocery stores, a couple banks, and they are building a brand new ALCO dept. store on the east edge of town. What I like about the town when we camp there in the summer, is you find the locals VERY friendly. You can walk into the local Jack & Jill grocery store, or the Super Valu store, and find both white and natives working and shopping together. The locals take pride in their town, and from I have seen as an outsider, work together to keep it nice. I'm sure there are some issues, but as an outsider, I have not seen anything too negative about the town. Check out a couple of their sites.

We camp during the summer at the Casino RV park. It has everything you need. Good access to the boat ramp, next to the casino. Within a couple minutes of New Town, 2 grocery stores, hardware store, and now an ALCO store. People are very friendly. When you think of reservation towns, people get a little nervous. You don't feel like you are on a reservation in New Town.

Outside of my birthplace in WY, I always felt more at home than on da Rez.
