Default Where to buy a home in Minot?

I need a little assistance on which area in Minot to live . I know that it has a grid effect and the streets are 1,2,etc. My daughter and her husband are moving there in 2 months and have found a house on the internet they like on 19th st NW. Is this a good area for a young couple for their 1st home. They will be there for 4 years and will their home be hard to sell when they are reassigned ? Anyone living in the Minot area please get back with me on the best areas for them to look to buy a home and for resale when they leave.

There are really not a lot of "poor" areas to live in Minot. NW is good, SW is good, SE has some trailers. As long as you are not near the college or the State Fair Grounds the housing is pretty good in all areas. There is a lot of train activity here-- so I wouldn't live by the rail lines-- that's just me-- I was in CP Rail and I don't like living near the tracks. It just depends on what you are looking for.

I can tell you quite honestly the housing market is actually growing in Minot, and there is a new bomb squadron standing up, there was some oil found just west of Minot, and the town in general is growing, so in all honesty it would may not be hard to buy and resell. If you are intending reselling the land I would be picky about what you buy.

I would live outside of Minot in Ward County rather than in Minot-- property taxes in the city itself are very high. There is a subdivision right by the Minot Airport opening up and there are a lot of houses being built in town. Also realize that there is a steep difference in the cost of buying a home and the BAH out here. When first bought our home, both my husband and I were Lieutenants, and the morgage was much higher than both our BAHs, now my husband is a major, and we are making money on our BAH.

Have them check military by owner dot com, or REALTOR.com - Real Estate Listings & Homes For Sale, that website can give you a lot of ideas for housing.

Hi There,
You really don't have to worry too much about where to live in Minot. We don't have any slums or ghettos here. In the SW part of Minot, the homes are more expensive than the NE part of town. Minot has pockets of homes that sell quickly due to location and/or upkeeps. If you buy a home, keep it clean and do some moderate updating, you'll have no problem reselling your home. But if you have a $100,000 home and you are asking for $130,000, then yes, you'll could have trouble selling your home. If you work at the base, you'll want to look toward the north side of town. If you have children, then you should be close to a school. There are a lot of factors to consider, before choosing a home. ct

My wife's uncle and his family live just north of the Burdick Job Center on 11 Ave NW two homes east from 16st NW. We have been there many times over the past few years and while I have never specifically been down 19th St NW it is in the same area just a bit west of 16th St and yes it is a nice area...single family homes....in the flatter area of town...quiet....I think just fine for starting a family type of home. Generally older homes...not ancient but likey 1950s or so but area is kept well mostly older people in area mixed with younger ones. But being there....I dont see any issues that I would be concerned about certainly not around 16th St and 11 Ave NW.

Re-sale and all....who knows in this real estate market what will happen in a few years.

Dan

Thanks magiccity for your prospective from the realestate view. I also plan to relocate to Minot to probably work at the hospital the will be looking for 1BR/1B apt to rent close to the hospital area. I have been looking a little at the realestate sites and was thinking for the wintertime I would need either a garage or local transit transportation to get to work. Is this a possibility? If you want you can send me a private message with your work email address on it to help me with some possible areas I might be interested in. Thanks, nanamom"BJ"

I would look outside Minot. In 2004 I found a really nice place 9 mi SE of Minot with acreage. Within 20 mile radius is not far to commute.
