There are really not a lot of "poor" areas to live in Minot. NW is good, SW is good, SE has some trailers. As long as you are not near the college or the State Fair Grounds the housing is pretty good in all areas. There is a lot of train activity here-- so I wouldn't live by the rail lines-- that's just me-- I was in CP Rail and I don't like living near the tracks. It just depends on what you are looking for.
I can tell you quite honestly the housing market is actually growing in Minot, and there is a new bomb squadron standing up, there was some oil found just west of Minot, and the town in general is growing, so in all honesty it would
may not be hard to buy and resell. If you are intending reselling the land I would be picky about what you buy.
I would live outside of Minot in Ward County rather than in Minot-- property taxes in the city itself are very high. There is a subdivision right by the Minot Airport opening up and there are a lot of houses being built in town. Also realize that there is a steep difference in the cost of buying a home and the BAH out here. When first bought our home, both my husband and I were Lieutenants, and the morgage was much higher than both our BAHs, now my husband is a major, and we are making money on our BAH.
