My wife is from Thompson. Its 8 miles South of Grand Forks. She really liked it. High School sports are a big deal and they have 4-H. I think you are going to find that in every small town in ND. I think the school is good. She's pretty smart. They don't have a lot of services or amenities being its so close to Grand Forks. Even though its 8 miles away from GF it still has its own identity.

They have dirt roads and the sign on the way into town telling you how many State Championships they won to prove it.

Hi Southern Star,
Minot would be a good location due to the jobs available on base and town. Minot is short on construction workers and various other positions. Check out Job Service North Dakota and see what is available. Minot AFB just announced that they will be putting in 6 new 144 man dormitories, a new air tower, and a BX. We already have a shortage of personnel due to the oil boom and taking everyone away. Before you come, see if the website can lead you to any jobs and that should determine where you will live. ct

SouthernStar is on a distinguished road
Thanks everyone! I am impressed with how many good jobs your lovely state has. It seems like we can pick any decent-sized town and there are jobs. Now that we have some suggestions we'll look for jobs around those areas and narrow it down if/when we get offers.

Thanks so much for your help! Repped you all
