Do not move to Bismark please look at the population/age in that town I go there three or four times a year on business and dating or single life is primarily if not exclusively for the upper fifties crowd Fargo is a good bet well rounded town good people no muggings you can walk around town at two in the morning without a care really don't look for much scenery without some travel. Weve got some good lakes of our own like ashtabulah over by valley city very pretty over there rolling hills and such lots of college kids too in both fargo and valley city region night life is getting better here

North Dakota State provides some exciting collegiate sports to watch. There's a couple art museums and independent galleris. It also attracts a fair amount of out-of-town musical acts, ranging from indie hip-hop to Bon Jovi.

As far as number two is concerned, you're about an hour from lake country in Minnesota so there's camping and prettiness abound.

And number 3 ... both.

I don't know much about the rest of the state. Bismarck has a lot of job growth I've heard but as far as things to do, I'm at a loss, and the western half is on a verge of major oil boom, so there will be jobs but housing is in short supply. Grand Forks has a lot of college-age youth but I don't know what to job situation is.

Good luck!

I'm trying to buy land in western north dakota. I checked out realtor.com and noticed how land parcels are very cheap in that region. Do you know people buying out there? I would love more information on this.

Dickinson did seem so nice when we visited in August. Many people have reported on this site that "ND has cold winters and hot summers" , but I am telling you, even though the temperature was 98 most of the days we were in Dickinson, the humidity was at 15% or so, and it was way cooler than Kansas, even if the temperature was the same, the humidity was so much lower, and a nice 30 mile an hour breeze was blowing. It was lovely! If that is what you mean be "Hot summer", then I am signed on!

We were in Dickinson for 5 days, met really nice people, nice roads to everywhere and good signs. The DSU campus was neat and the people welcoming. Good shopping, and everything clean and in good repair.
We are sold on ND!

Once you get east of Bismarck, the humidity goes up. Here in Valley City, the temp & humidity% are often the same in summer, or the humidity is higher. We usually only get a handfull of days in the 90's, tho, so it's still not too bad.
