If you have mineral rights in Mountrail county, I am really surprised you have not already been approached? A recent article about the drilling going on in the Bakken formation (especially in Mountrail and Dunn counties) indicated within the the next 10 years, they estimate each square mile of both counties, will have a pumper jack located on the square mile. Hard to believe, but the way they are drilling, I wouldn't be surprised.

It varies by location but typically an oil company is only required to lease a 640 acre area around the well.

I leased my mineral rights in Dunn County in May 2007. They started drilling this month.

The oil business can be a dog eat dog world. You need to protect yourself and get informed. Here is the link to the ND maintained site:

https://www.dmr.nd.gov/oilgas/

By the way, ND has pooling statues. Pooling agreements are usually made up of 1 or 2 sections (640 or 1280 acres) blocks of land. It is all highly controlled and watched by the state. Noone is drilling under anyones land and stealing their oil.

I have other links if anyone is interested.

Hi its been awhile since I have been on the forum. We recieved a lease today with them offering 22 cents an acre with 16% royalty. I thought of what you posted awhile ago about reading the fine lines. So far so good . But it does seem to be all to real!
