Valley City area
Hey everyone
After more research about ND, Valley City looks to be a great place to put down roots. I found their website, some other stuff online, but really only vague conditions.
Anyone here live or have lived in Valley City? I like the fact that it's big enough to have all the amenities, but small enough to have that "home-sweet-home" feel. Is this a correct assumption?
I could find little to nothing on the job situation in the area? Anyone know where I could look further into this?
Lisbon looks like a nice little place as well. Do people commute back and forth? Valley City looks atrractive because it's right off a major artery, with larger cities in either direction.
One more thing, and this is CRUCIAL to me: I could find nothing in the Valley City area businesses that suggested there is high-speed Internet available. Please tell me some of the smaller towns offer this. As a computer geek, I cannot live a without high-speed connection.

Hi
I have visited Valley City and environs a few times for work related things and VC is right on the Sheyenne but it not prone to flooding due to Baldhill Dam. There are hills and bluffs right along the Sheyenne making VC a break from the typical flat typography of other eastern ND cities. There is also a federal fish hatchery there. Jobs service of ND is an excellent spot to check job lisitings with many employers posting there for openings. Or at least you can get many some leads there. I dont know anything about computer tech job market in VC at all....but from the job list I pulled up for Barnes county (VC) there are two companies mentioned seeking positions.

One more thing....rest easy high speed internet is avbl either from cable provider (Cable Service Inc - CSI) or of course from satellite.... CSI cable serves Jamestown and VC.

I have been to Lisbon once..and its a nice town too but too far away from being a commuting town per se. Winter weather would make regular commutes difficult due to distance.

daninegf,
Thanks for your reply including the link; I appreciate it.
There is so much research to do when you are thinking of moving somewhere. I honestly don't know what people did before the advent of the Internet. Being able to at least get a synopsis and photos of a place to consider checking out is invaluable and ideal.
Thanks again...

I'm not sure what sorts of amenities you're looking for...if it's Walmart, K-Mart, etc you'll have to go 1/2 hour west to Jamestown or 50 min east to Fargo. We do have 2 grocery stores, a Pamida (small version of Shopco/K-mart/Walmart etc) Family dollar, several fast food places (burger King, Taco Johns, Subway, DQ) a couple other quaint restaurants, 2 supper clubs (3-if you count The Eagles Club), 3 drugstores, etc, etc, etc.
As far as job situations, check with the Chamber of Commerce or the Development Corp. They could steer you in the right direction. Also, see what you can find about Eagle Creek software www.eaglecrk.com I believe is the website. Go to 'about us', then 'careers' then 'valley city'.
No problem on the internet. I know there's at least 2 choices available. We get ours thru the cable TV company. I know there's a wireless company & I think one or more of the phone companies also offer it.

I couldn't figure out how to post pics. Sorry! I'd get the 8 allowed pics downloaded & there'd be no place to click to 'send'. Only button anywhere is 'close this window' and then, of course, everything goes away & I'd have to start over. After 4 times I gave up. If someone could tell my how to do it, I'd appreciate it.

Here's the pics. This batch is all from along the Sheyenne Valley National Scenic Byway south of town, except for one of a bunch of wild turkeys that came thru our yard.
