Default calling DaninEGF are you out there???

Hey-its me again. Hope you are doing good. Florida is still hot and miserable. Do you know anything about having to pay for school bus service in ND? We are looking at a house in rural ND and the realtor mentioned that some people in rural ND have to pay bus fee for their children to ride to school. I can't find anything on the cass county school site regarding a bus fee- just thought you might know, if not I will have to try to email the school system. Still here is Florida, but getting closer to ND all the time. When do the leaves change? I can't wait to see them!!

Hi from up north...

I do know it is school district dependent. The Grand Forks public schools contracts with a private company to run school buses and you do have to pay for the services. I dont know how much. Now in GF the school buses have the name of the company on the side of the bus....but in Fargo and other districts in Cass county I have seen buses with the name of the school district on them. So...when I see that I assume that the school district provides free transportation. But I would contact the schools to be sure as it does vary. In Minnesota it is law that all school bus transportation is free in all districts.

I will do some more checking and see what I can find out.

FYI leaves start changing toward mid to end of September and maxed out in early October if memory serves correctly.

Default I found some info on busing....

tnnwannabe...

Here is a link to a 2007 Grand Forks Herald article that has some good info.

No Bus About It Looking for a Ride - Business - redOrbit

It says that only three school districts in the state (GF, Bismarck and Dickinson) are not legally required to bus students as they are the only three that have not consolidated or taken over other districts.

So in this case I would assume the districts in your area you are looking at would include busing. I did check some local districts websites in Cass county such as Cass Central, etc and there was no mention of any paying to bus.

This link may help you out to decide what district you are in (if you havent checked already)...

Cass County Government ND

dutchinnd will become famous soon enoughdutchinnd will become famous soon enough
In Fargo, up until this year you had to pay to ride the school bus. Even though the name Fargo Public Schools is on the side of the bus, the service was actually outsourced and the drivers are not FPS employees. This summer the school board decided to absorb the cost of busing for the entire district in order to encourage students to ride the bus, cut down on parking and traffic issues, and overall reduce energy consumption.
I'm really, really looking forward to not having to issue the daily reminder to my middle-schooler "Have you got a bus ticket to get home??"

thanks alot! I am glad they have absorbed the cost-every little bit helps when you have 3 to pay for! We have been looking at some houses on the web in cassleton and mapleton but as soon as we get there and sign the papers I am going to physically visit the schools for info what I need to provide to enroll my children, as I have homeschooled for 12 years and we are ready to place them in public school for middle school through high school. I am really looking forward to seeing the leaves, I have missed the "visual" season change since I left northern PA in 1983. My kids have never seen snow-ever-can't wait to take them sledding or ice skating!!! Again, thanks for all the info-you guys are great, I hope we have neighbors as nice as you! I am counting the days till we leave-
