Wink Some Info Please

My husband and I have lived in Texas all of our lives. We have a 5 year old daughter who will be starting kindergarten this school year. My husband who works for the Gov't is transferring to Dickinson. He will have to go up there for a while before my daughter and I come. What I am trying to find out is where in Dickinson is the best and safest place to live. Is there any specifics I need to know? Also, since we don't have a problem down here how do Dakotians view interracial couples and mixed children.

Dickinson is a small city (almost 17,000) and anywhere is safe and friendly. (It's also nice that it is not a super small town where everyone knows everyone else's business.) I think that if you are friendly to others then you won't have to worry about the whole race issue. However, to be honest, we are not very culturally diverse. That being said, I think you will like it here and make friends easily.
Give me a call sometime and we can chat some more (refer to my email). My family is looking forward to the possibility of meeting your family when you make the move.

Safest area of Dickinson: Entire City

Interacial Couple: A few very old people will silently think its strange, the rest of the population will likely give a rats ()#s - as in they won't care that you're an interacial couple.

Realistically, there are no "unsafe" areas in ND. I can certainly tell you are coming from a larger, more populated state and are concerned. ND has such a low crime and porverty rate its pretty rediculous.
Also.. I very much agree with the above comments on interracial couples. My cousin is such a couple and to my knowledge has never had troubles. As stated above..the only people who may look down on it is the older generation here. For whatever reason they are the individuals who tend to drop the racial slurs here. Otherwise..you will do just fine!
