Wink Italian community in Fargo/Moorhead?

O.K. I've finally made it my first year out here and I am actually starting to like it more and more. But, I am very homesick for the kind of authentic Italian food I grew up with. Can anyone tell me where I can find a good mediterranean market closer than four hours away? or a good place to eat Italian food? that's not a chain.

I don't know about any actual mediterranean markets. As for restaurants, you can check out the one in Dilworth (I think it's Altony's). Another one that I've heard good things about is Sarello's in Moorhead (near the Center Mall).

Fargo's a weird one for ethnic cuisine. For example, considering the number of Norwegians, I shouldn't have to search out church basement dinners and Sons of Norway events to get some Potato Klubb or Torsk, but that's just the way it is.

Yes, Dilworth was town that had the closest thing to an Italian neighborhood as a result of the influx of railroad workers. Until the chain restaurants moved in (such as they are) the church dinners at St. Elizabeth's in Dilworth were apparently the _only_ place to get Italian food. Otherwise, Santa Lucia has a mix of Italian and Greek items on their menu.

Speakeasy in Moorhead and Isabella's in downtown Fargo. Isabella's has the best pizza in town.

That's easy. No one would ever pay for Norwegian food.
