There is one software company that it seems is always looking for new employees....I will PM you with the website.
My next door neighbor recently went back to school and got a degree in some type of IT area and got a job with them.

Again, I'll be blunt. There are IT jobs in GF but they are few and far between. Often times you will see a job posted however they already have someone picked out for the job (either the city will legally have to post the position even if they have someone they know they will be hiring for it, or corp policy in a private firm states the same).

If you are a programmer/web design you may have an easier time getting work, however if you are a Network/hardware person, the job market is VERY competitive. You also have to realize that with 8-12 colleges that have IT related programs near GF/EGF and Fargo/Moorhead (NDUS, UND, Concordia, MSUM, Northwest Tech, Aaker's, Mary's, Vally City State University, and Mayville being the major producers of IT degrees in the area). A lot of those students are going to be looking for work in the IT field while they are going to college and a few do tend to stay in the area after college is done (permanently when they graduate or even just summer vacation).

Dan is right that you can find work in the area and people do get hired but if you want to know the true scope of things, just look at Http://www.in-forum.com (broken link) and check the jobs listings. Narrow the search to the IT field and you will get an idea of where the work is.

Now that isn't all available jobs however. North Dakota Job Service lists available jobs in the area as well. Job Service North Dakota is the site to check. They normally have more available jobs posted because they don't charge as much as the paper does. (If they charge at all anymore.)

I also suggest contacting the Temp companies. In my experiance in IT in the Fargo area, the tendency of Fargo companies that hire temp employees through temp agencies is that they normally hire you on after X amount of time. Kelly Services, and Adecco, Spherion Corporation, and Kforce Inc are the big temp agencies in Grand Forks. They would be, IMHO, your best bet to start out with first as they know the area and who is looking for what.

Volt Services is based in Fargo, however they do have some jobs that open up in Grand Forks. If you are looking for an IT Job in Fargo, they normally are the first people that the IT crowd stops at. Where Microsoft wouldn't even call me back, Volt not only got me the interview but I got hired for the position in MS. I'd suggest them if you decide to look in Fargo.

I hope this helps.

My family is moving back to the area from nc and we are having a very difficult time finding any houses/ townhomes for rent in east grand online. I know there are apartments, but they don't usually seem as nice or clean as in gf. Does anyone have any suggestions on to find a landlord just renting properties in the area?

Most apartment complexes (small and large) in GF-EGF are managed by real estate companies or apartment management services. So unless you search specific ones you might not get too much on one of those national web sites.

Goldmark...IMM Apartments....Elite Property Management....and Alerus Property Management are the main players in town in this regard.

In EGF....all apartments and townhomes for rent are on the northside (mostly north of Hwy 2). Brentwood Apartments north of the high school seems to be the nicest....but overall there aren't really any new luxurious apartments in EGF...you have to go to GF for that. All depends on what your price area is.
But here are a few links to apartments that I found. I have no connection with any of these properties nor in the real estate business nor do I know anyone living in them. So cant recommend anyone over the other.

Alerus Financial Property Web :: Available Residential by Region

Brentwood Estates : IMM Apartments: Over 5,000 apartments for rent

Arbor Glen : IMM Apartments: Over 5,000 apartments for rent

DW Jones Management, Inc. I Offering a variety of housing styles, locations and options to suit your needs.

Elite Property Management, LLC

I hope this helps!
