Smile Looking for info on White Shield N.D.

Hello, I purchased a 1960 antique thermometer at a antique store. It has the title of "White Shield Pharmacy" on it, it gives the address of White Shield Plaza, Lawerence & Kennedy Rd. I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about this item or drug store. Thanks for your time..

Your questions intrigued me and I did some searching on the internet. Now...I do have relatives in the area you are talking about (actually north toward Minot)....but I do know the town of White Shield is on the Fort Berthold Reservation and is real small and doubt this is the White Shield the thermometer refers too. The reference to Lawrence and Kennedy Roads lends me to discount White Shield ND as there are no named streets/roads as such in the area. But I am not 100 percent certain. So any history buffs out there can correct me. Did the writing on the thermometer say specifically North Dakota?

Now....I did research and there was a White Shield Pharmacy chain that was bought out by Rite-Aid Pharmacy in 1996. A little article I found said Rite-Aid bought the 14 store chain of White Shield Pharmacies which were located in Pennsylvania. I did see some reference to White Shield Health and Beauty in Ephrata, PA (Amish country east of Lancaster). And it said this store was in the Cloisters Shopping Center on N Reading Road. So this did not seem right.
Was there an old White Shield store somewhere in that part of southeast PA back then, certainly could have been as it seemed all pharmacies with that name were located in PA, before being bought out in 1996. Might want to pose this question on the PA state forum for any info.

Strangely, though I did run across a White Shield Plaza located at 2300 East Lawrence at Kennedy Road located in Scarborough Ontario (Toronto). No reference I could find of any pharmacy of that name...but odd that the plaza had that name at the location mentioned as location was Lawrence at Kennedy. You can call up white shield plaza Toronto and see what I mean.

That's all I could find out.

Dan
