Hello, everybody,
I am Chinese student newly admitted by the graduat college of UND, perhaps I will go to GF in the coming Aug, but I know nothing about GF, from people and food, to livin stipend . So I just find this friendly forum, could anyone just give me a brief instruction? I know it is a peaceful city, is there many oppurtunities I can find to intership?(my major is engineering), is whether here really so could in winter? ect... thanks a lot!Additionally, I alse received an admission from another university in a eastern coast state, where tuition and stipend is much higher than UND, both are same major, but someone told me in the eastern coast, it is easier to find intership jobs since it closer to several big cities, and the climite there is better too. Well, it is a hard choose for me, now I intend to ND, can any friends from ND or GF give me some suggestion? Thanks so much! Regards! Last edited by dayinpo; 05-31-2006 at 02:18 PM. |

Dayinpo:
I have a graduate engineering degree from UND 20 years ago, so I am partially qualified to respond. At that time, a high fraction of graduate students were foreign nationals. Since then, UND has developed official relationships with both Chinese and Indian universities, so I would hope and expect the UND culture to be very welcoming to you. You might check with UND's International Centre to talk with current grad students: http://www.und.nodak.edu/dept/OIP/html/overview.htm As far as internships, it somewhat will depend on your major and area of specialty. The UND Energy and Environmental Research Center has numerous ongoing projects with businesses and the government in numerous areas and is well-respected internationally. They are currently expanding their staff. Here's the website: http://www.eerc.und.nodak.edu/ UND is also developing a Public/Private research park that will emphasize aviation (there's a major initiative ongoing with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), material science, and biotechnology. There's reason to believe there will be corporate offices locating there (like Raytheon, Lockheed, Alion) but nothing is official yet. Here's a few links: http://www.und.edu/news/NEW_SCRIPTS/...se.jsp?id=1382 http://www.universityrelations.und.e...ery/fall_2005/ http://www.aero.und.edu/f5_News/f1_C...der2.php?id=16 The weather will be change for you. It would probably be best to get an apartment on or near campus so you don't have to deal with a car (or parking) in cold weather. Grand Forks has reasonable public transportation. Here's a couple more general websites for you. removed Hope this helps!! Last edited by Yac; 06-03-2006 at 06:08 AM. |
