If you want to move to small town with medical facilities, Ashley, North Dakota is the place to live. This town is just under a thousand people and it has its own hospital. It is services by two doctors with one being a surgeon. The average house in this community is under 25,000. There are also a lot of apartments in town like the harmony homes, apartments based on income, and even apartments on the bottom floor of the hospital (12 apartments in all). If you want to know more about Ashley check out their website at City of Ashley.

LOL.....

"Fargo" was not even set in "Fargo" - mainly in Brainerd, MN (my old neck of the woods) and the Twin Cities, and at any rate, the people portrayed were extremely exaggerated stereotypes. Not to worry!

I would recommend Fargo. The people can be insular and a bit cold but the quality of life is very high.
I put in my vote for Fargo , as well.........Another place is the State capital, Bismarck . Cost of living may be lower than Fargo, an the average, quite progressive place , sort of remote however.

Default My Recommendation

I spent a few years in the state and would agree that Fargo is a great place to live. If you are looking for something a bit smaller, Wahpeton would be my choice. Great parks, friendly people and great medical care. Just a short drive to Fargo if you want to take in some of the events.

velva is a nice community, i lived there for a few months in 2004. the people for the most part were friendly, i believe they have a clinic there but would have to travel to minot which is about 15 minutes away to get to a hospital. it is in a valley along the mouse river so it has lots of trees and hills which i find to be a nice break from normal nd terrain. it has a grocery store and 2 filling stations and a nice small town feel that is close enough to minot for a quick trip.

I grew up in a small town in North Dakota, and while I would not recommend my hometown (pop less than 200), I would suggest some others. I would suggest checking out Cooperstown, Lisbon, Casselton, Carrington, Ellendale, Mayville and Valley City. All have a population around 1,000-2,000, except for Valley City which is about 6,500. All of them have relatively decent hospitals, of what I've heard anyways. Casselton didn't have a hospital, the nearest one was in Fargo about 15 minutes away. And as for North Dakota and snow-I lived there for my entire childhood and through college, and we had a lot of snow just about every winter. There does tend to be a mild winter with little snow and warmer temps, but that is not very common. And tornadoes aren't all that common, but they do occur occasionally. I lived in the southeastern part of the state, on a farm, and we did have one go through our yard, and have seen damage from others that occurred near my hometown.

Cavalier. Northeastern corner of the state, close to the scenic Pembina Hills and miles from a very nice state park. It has a hospital and retirement home for your healthcare needs. basic shopping - no Wal-Mart, but there is Pamida and several family owned stores. Housing available and affordable, but you may want to buy a snow shovel. Winnipeg is just up the road for your international needs.
