So basically the idea is if ND was a mini United States, which cities would be what. Yes this is absurd but I'm bored.

My thoughts:

Fargo: New York - kind of obvious - business capital, largest population, thinks highly of itself, doesn't notice the rest of the state / country.

West Fargo: New Jersey - wants to be New York / Fargo, cheaper than New York / Fargo, still nice compared to most of the rest of the country / state

Bismarck: Not sure. I could go w/ Chicago ("Second City" fits, Chicago also thinks highly of itself) or Los Angeles (second largest population, sort of rival to New York culturally, more laid back than NY, has hills & beaches (i.e. sandbars))

Mandan: No Idea

Grand Forks: Boston: a bit more liberal than the rest of the state, lots of college students. Obsessed with what New York does. New York doesn't notice it

Williston: Houston - obvious

Dickinson: Denver - big energy industry, substitute Rockies for the badlands

Jamestown: No idea

Minot: Not sure - Philadelphia? Wants to be NY, Chicago, or Boston; used to be relatively more important

LOL...poor Jamestown...maybe they could be like Des Moine or Omaha...you know...those cities exist, they are nice, but they don't have any real identity??? Not that Jamestown is bad...but when I think of Jamestown, I think Big Buffalo or State Hospital.
But...I would say Bismarck is more Washington DC...just because it is scenic, has a lot of government agencies and buildings, and basically exists because of the Government. Mandan would be like Fairfax, VA...a place you live, but commute to the capital city to work, shop, dine, etc...

I'm going to stick out my neck and mention that New Jersey isn't a city.

Devil's Lake=Minneapolis; Further North and regionally important, but still considered "out in the boonies" to a lot of people.

Based on City Data thread statistics; Fessenden would be like Cincinnatti--high crime rate for the population.

Ft. Yates (Prairie Knights) would be Vegas; New Town (Four Bears) would be Reno, NV; and St. Michael (Spirit Lake) would be Atlantic City.

As Wells County's most controversial town, it has to be included. That being said;

Wellsburg, ND compared to a national U.S. city is...Wellsburg, ND.

I'd say Jamestown is like DC - you know, a bunch of nuts on the hill?

I thought they would have done something by now like build a amusement park or something, anything theres gotta be something to do other than drink yourself stupid and wander around bonanzaville. I see people hanging out at the bus station on NP ave same people every day not going anyware just hanging around.

I think Devils Lake would be more like Detroit or some Ohio town. Was nice and important in its day. Now its just a tad bit run down and dying.
