Default Looking at Minot,ND

I'm a graduating mechanical engineer with a job offer near the Minot area and just wondering how the surroundings are. I would be working in Velva but I figured finding a job for my wife would be easier in Minot. Any information about the area and people would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I live in Bottineau, its about 80 miles north. Pretty much Minot is our 'city'. Its a nice area I think. Its not bad with crime and its a got a great college and is expanding in a lot of ways. If I didn't have my heart set on moving to California I'd move there first.

I lived in Minot from '03 to '06, and I liked the area, like they say "Minot is so far from any interstate you don't ever pass through unless you are planning on it". I like that it's a small city with absolutely nothing surrounding it except tiny communities. You're an hour or two drive from: The north dakota badlands/Teddy Roosevelt nat'l park/Maah daah hey trail, the canadian border, Bismarck, White butte, Lake Sakakawea and three bears casino (I think thats the name).

As for the people, most of the folks I ran into were nothing but nice. Sure you'll run into some jerks, but it goes without saying. Plenty of in town amenities, but also a ton of outdoor activities as well.

visit www.minotchamber.org and they'll send you a package FULL of info.

Hope i've been of some help.

I never imagined myself living in a small town. But Minot is a breath of fresh air to me. It is prettier than I expected and is the cleanest place I've ever been. There is virtually no polution or crime.

Minot State University is a small school but seems to have a good selection of programs. It also helps keep the city a little more progressive.

The Dakota Square Mall is quite nice for a city this size. It has a good selection of stores and is certainly not hurting for business. It is always crowded.

Although I dislike chain stores, they often define a place. Minot has a Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, Eddie Bauer, Target, and a new Super WalMart. It has a Menards, Staples, Buffalo Wild Wings, and I think there is an Applebees. Herbergers is alright, but Minot is missing the larger department stores to which you may be accustomed.

One of the most difficult transitions was that Minot is very isolated. Winnipeg is a 5 to 6-hour drive, and Regina is about 3.5 hours if you want to go to Canada. Minot has a nice little airport with 3 flights per day to Minneapolis. But it is a litle pricey. You can also drive to Bismarck to catch flights to Denver, Las Vegas, or Pheonix.

My company wants me to transfer to Stanley North Dakota. They are allowing my a 70 mile radius of Stanley to find a place. They will pay me for the commute which is nice. I have found a place in Mohall I really like but there are also some closer to Minot. Anybody know of a good reputable realtor in the are? Also are there any homes for rent that are reasonable?
