Default Apartments & rental housing in Bismarck???

Hello,

I'm looking at a possible move to Bismarck from Florida in the near future and unfortunately I won't be able to come up for even a look around prior to moving there. My wife and I have plenty of money saved up but we will be leaving our jobs behind for a new start up there.

We'll be looking for a rental until we find work and get to know the market well enough to buy. Can any of you NoDaks offer some advice as to where we should look in Bismarck for a rental (apt or house)? We are 30 somethings and would like to raise a family and safety is our #1 priority. We'd also like to work close to home and we are willing to work anywhere in the short term until we find the jobs we really want (wife is in healthcare, I'm in sales). No long commutes if possible.

Do you guys recommend any apartments or is there a good rental source on the web you'd recommend?

Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

Big Thanks!

Well it is North Dakota, There isn't much outside of the immeadiate vicinity of Bismarck/Mandan. The combined population of both cities is right at 71,000 people (with the metro population of Burliegh and Morton counties at 100,000) so i'm sure you could find jobs fairly easily if you stay in town.

As for rentals, I would begin with the classifieds at www.bismarcktribune.com. Bismarck is a nice town for the most part, like almost anywhere it has neighborhoods that have seen better days, but all in all it's a pretty clean, very safe place to live.

If you're moving from Florida, the low population density and much cheaper cost of living will be a bit of a shock (In a good way) You'll definitely dig the scenery of ND a lot more I would say.

Hope i've been of some help.

Here are a couple management companies that have nice places to live. They should all be security buildings. Two main ones are IMM Apartments: Over 5,000 apartments for rent: Home and www.goldmark.com. I'm not sure if there are others with websites. Also check out the bismarck tribune also.

Default Bismarck newbie

I recently moved to Bismarck from Toronto. Prior to Toronto, I've lived in Dallas, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Oklahoma City. One of the first things you'll notice about Bismarck and most other ND communities is the nearly complete lack of "bad" parts of town. There is no poverty or crime here relative to all other places I've lived. So, you'll feel very safe where ever you live in Bismarck.

There are plenty of new apartments here as the population is growing. Most seem to concentrated on the North side of the city. I have several friends who live in the Cottonwood Apartments. Here's the link:

IMM Apartments: Over 5,000 apartments for rent: Cottonwood Apartments

They are nice and seem to be well managed.

Another big difference I've seen in Bismarck apartments versus other places I've lived is the lack of amenities. You won't find pools, tennis courts, work-out rooms, and most don't have club houses. Some do --but most do not.

I would highly advise getting an apartment with a garage if you can. They are a little more expensive, but in the winter, you'll be glad you did it.

I live in an apartment managed by Goldmark. I have not had any problems and the apartment is nice. The rules are a little strict. But, I think that helps keep the apartments a little nicer.

Personally, I don't care for the area near the Kirkwood Mall. Apartments in this area are older and not in good repair in my opinion. Apartments near the river are variable. Some are nice and some are not.

Good luck.
