LOL, I know, but thought I might narrow it down some by naming those areas.
Haha... my mom's an Olson (and Jenson on her mom's side), but from the Hansboro area up near the Canadian border, and the family originally hails from the area of Trondheim, Norway. We go back to King Harald the first ... but then again, so do most Norwegians
Before you start checking...a little advice...I am trying to trace my husband's Swedish roots back to Sweden...my son even subscribed to Ancestry.com...I hit a brick wall at the one who originally came over . Here is an idea of the difficulty of Scandanavian names in general: Naming practices - Swedish surnames
Especially a name like Olson...which would be as common as Smith or Jones here. It is quite interesting to discover your family roots.. but it is not all that easy Good Luck!!
Not sure where my down line hailed from, you got me wondering now, will have to do some checking.
My 2nd cousins who did the genealogy research (and made it into a couple of books for the rest of the family) had to hie themselves to Norway to learn much of anything!
Funny note: in those books are many old photos. One is of many-times-great-grandmother Kvale. Former VP Dan Quayle is her spitting image... and his surname is the same name, just Americanized.
Any relatives lurking around this place. Olson's that originated out of the Veblin, SD/ Ligerwood, ND/ or Cayuga, ND areas?
--I am researching my Olson roots - My great granfather was Joseph Gustave Olson born 1862, when he was around 14 years of age he left Denmark and joined a ship and traveled to Australia were his older brothers had traveled to a couple of years before- he searched for them for over a year and then took another ship to New York,USA - he always thought his brothers may have settled in Austalia, around 1874...it would be very kind of you to share any history you may have on the Olson family- thank you for your time!
