Default hot dog cart in North Dakota?

Hi, I was thinking about moving to North Dakota near either Fargo or Grand Forks. I was wondering if anybody who lives/lived there thinks me opening up a hot dog cart like you see in Chicago and NYC would make money in either of those cities? Have you ever seen any? I know it gets really cold up there so I dont know if people will be out on the streets in the cities and people walking by are pretty much the only customers, so......thats kind of important lol. My best friend lives in MN, but is in a little town so he didnt have very much input for me. so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Nope not a chance. Winters are too long and too cold.

Maybe a snack / hotdog cart in a hospital, hotel, convention center, or airport?

I think Fargo has rules against that sort of stuff. A couple years ago, a long time downtown business tried grilling hotdogs in the summer during the noon hour & the city people jumped all over him. I don't recall exactly why, but they sure didn't like it.

Also as the other poster said, it gets too cold for too long. You'd have to have something else to do from mid Oct-early May.

I actually think it might work in Fargo or Grand Forks: Just be open downtown when the bars close & sell hotdogs to drunk college kids. Other than that, I can't see you selling many hotdogs in ND.

Ok, I didnt think it would be very likely to work, I just thought maybe it would since there are alot of cold places that people run hot dog carts. I'll prolly just find another place to go...I just want atleast SOME snow in the winter, we never get it here lol.

It isn't a bad idea mattscalf...at least you were serious. Some thought you were maybe joking because of our severe winters here. I just don't think there is enough downtown foot traffic in any ND town that would support a hot dog stand year round. I know they have them in Winnepeg, but they have many office towers in their downtown area with 10,000's of workers. You'd be lucky if any town in ND had 1,000-2,000 working in their downtown areas. I'd like someone to just open up a "hotdog" store like the old Vienerschnitsels. A variety of dogs...you can't find anything like that in ND.

Fargo had something like that for a while with "The Fargo Doghouse." It was a decent quick lunch. However, it's owner was on the Fargo City Commission for a while. He was the one who called in the Health Department when a neighborhing business was selling grilled brats and hotdogs out on the sidewalk on Broadway during the summer.
Can you say conflict of interest?
