Default factory/production work in north dakota?

Hi, I just went to Grand Forks, ND and northern MN to visit my friend and I loved it up there...where I live (eastern NC) we never get snow lol and I love the cold weather and Im ready for a change. Anyway I was wondering how hard it would be to find work with only a high school diploma, no college degree up that way. Id like to be on the east side of ND. I saw a lot of factories and stuff and I was just wondering if there are a lot of those jobs open and how much do they usually pay? another question, what happens if you live 30-45 mins away from work and the roads are closed because of snow? do employers understand? Thanks so much!

Both http://www.cirrusaircraft.com/(airplanes) and http://www.lmglasfiber.com/(wind turbines) have plants in Grand Forks. I'm know there is some woodworking plant also. Beet plant...I'm sure there are others. It's been awhile since I lived up north.

Yes employers understand winter travel situations. It's not like NC, it actually has to be very bad for roads to be shut down. I lived in Eastern NC (Camp Lejuene) for 4 years and everything was shut down the only time it ever snowed, a dusting actually, while I was living there.

In the local GF-EGF area major places are simplot (french fries) in GF and American Crystal Sugar (sugar beet) processing plant in EGF. American Crystal Sugar also has processing plants in Drayton ND, Hillsboro ND, and Moorhead MN. As stated prior, LM Glassfiber is a maker of wind turbines and there is cirrus industry (maker of small airplanes). There are other smaller operations in town. I would google up the Job Services of North Dakota web page and start your search from there.

FYI I called up Simplot website and looked for any jobs for their Grand Forks plant (their headquarters are in Idaho) and saw the following to give you some info...

Hi Guys,

Well...I was going to start my own thread, BUT this one seems to do the trick.

Anyway, I am from eastern NC too...Swansboro to be exact & I loathe the beach life & hot weather.
I lived in MN for a bit when I was in my 20's & now I'm 45....we are thinking about moving to the Grand Forks area pretty soon also.

Wife, 2 kids....we love the solitude & as long as we can get to Wal Mart, Cub Foods & the hospital life is just grand !
I hope I can land a job with a company that has a softball team...I love to play ball & feel fit.
I'm a US Army & Air Force Vet as well so I hope that deems beneficial.

I used to make almost 20.00 an hr bending steel for taxidermy mold form legs & the company changed hands & cut everyones pay drasticly.
What took me almost 20 years to attain was gone in a few short months, I'm not a quiter though & I work hard...hopefully I'll land a good position again.

Thank You for that info Roundball..it was very helpful.
