You used to do what for fun? (Bismarck: home, safe)

So I was recently at my sons Mixed Martial Arts Class here in Bismarck, when a new student and his mom signed up. We started to chat as we watched the class and I found out she had moved here from Arizona in April. She started telling me how she couldn't believe how cold it was here. (this was in late Nov. when it was 30 degrees and little if any snow yet.) I said "Cold? when did it cold?, I know it is supposed to get cold next week, but this is pretty nice for us." She rolled her eyes and said something like "how can it get colder than this?" I told her "when there is a little minus sign in front of the numbers, then you know its getting cold." she just shook her head. I decided to change the subject and ask her if her son had done any martial arts before, she said "no, there are too many weirdos and scary stuff going on back in Arizona for us to trust anyone, but we feel safe here." She then said that the problem was that there is nothing to "do" here. Ok, fair enough, Bismarck doesn't have as much stuff as a lot of bigger cities but I think we do have a lot of stuff to do, so I asked her what she "did" back home. She thought for a moment and said "well nothing really, just stayed home mostly, especially because of the crime." I just had to try and keep from laughing. A week later the temps got to -50 and thats air temp, not wind chills. She told the instructor she was taking a "vacation" back in Arizona and they would be gone a few weeks. That was 2 months ago and they haven't been heard from again.
